The square one is one usually offered as a ballast resistor to the coil on early cars, the round one was the one on my Martini and I replaced it with a similar one from a later car when it failed. On the later cars, this resistor is usually mounted by the footwell fuse box.

The round one is rated 1.8ohm/40 watt, not sure if the square one has a similar rating?

Does anyone with a 1978 924 have the square one. And if so what kind of shape is it in. I can't believe I am the only one with this problem.

Hi, I have a 1978 Porsche 924 and found your old post regarding trying to get the fan resistor: Beru WZ18-2f. I know this was a long time ago but wondered how you made out and if you located that part? If not, there is a round resistor: 477905052a, I wondered if you tried that?
Thank you in advance, again I know this post was over 7 years ago, but I am in the situation that you were then.
Gary

That thread seemed to cover everything. If you need the radiator fan resistor I might have a couple laying around here that I bought on ebay years ago, doesn't look the same but works quit well and a little wire adapting required. If it is the ignition ballast resistors, I found the resistance and just googled them. Ended up with some ceramic ones from a mid 1980's Mercedes that fit and work perfectly. Send me a PM with which you are looking for

I am really looking for the Beru w18-2f which is the exact replacement, but I did buy another one similar to that on eBay but made for a Mercedes. It is not the exact same but similar.
I can get the round one 477905052a, is that what you have available? The problem of finding this part it is for the a/c model with 2 fans.
Thank you.

The rad fan resistor which is mounted on the top of the front panel on early cars is still used on later 924's but mounted by the auxiliary fuse panel in the side of the LH footwell (on euro spec cars).

There is at least one (used) currently on ebay.com

Thank you all for the suggestions, I guess I will have to get the round one and see if it will fit in the original location. I correct one looks like garbage, but I think it may work for a while longer.
Thanks again.
