|
|
(Apologies if I posted this previously...I can't find it if I did)
I got in the car a couple weeks ago, pushed the pedal and it sank to the floor. I can pull it back up with little effort and it stays. It doesn't feel like it's connected to any hydraulic system at all. I can push it in, or leave it out, and the pedal stays in either place, but looking through the observation port below, it doesn't actually do anything. From what of the master and slave cylinders and the clutch line itself that I can see, nothing is has leaked out. Indeed, the reservoir is more-or-less full (it actually seemed down a little but not much, so I added some fluid but of course no change). I expected to find fluid leaking somewhere. I'm going to try to bleed it, but I need my power bleeder back from a friend. I'm sure it's overdue for a fluid change anyway.
Any ideas, in the mean time? Everything was working fine right up until it wasn't.

It usually breaks down Clutch operating cylinder or master cylinder.
Many with Porsche 924S or 944 have already changed these spare parts due to failure. _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo (931) diamond silver metallic/helios blue metallic

I had this happen on two of mine. The clutch snapped down to the floor and didn't return unless pulled. I ended up replacing the clutch master & slave on one but got away with replacing only the slave on the other, at least so far.
For awhile, I got away with grabbing the clutch pedal and pumping it back and forth until it built up pressure. After a few times of this, it wouldn't hold pressure and I was forced to replace the cylinders. _________________ '81/'81/'82 |

Did you see leaking fluid when that happened? To be honest, I should probably just replace both cylinders and the line, since they're all most likely originals. It's just that I expected to see fluid somewhere... _________________ -----------------------------------------

I don't remember seeing much fluid externally. After removing the slave I found some seeping around the actuator rod. When the internal seals give up the ghost, it just won't build up enough pressure to actuate the clutch. _________________ '81/'81/'82 |

That's got to be what happened in my case then. Time to go buy some parts...

I had the same problem but didn't find any leaks. I replaced the clutch master cylinder, hydraulic clutch line and the braided hose that runs from the reservoir to the MC. (see: http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=44402) I had replaced the slave cylinder a couple of months ago.
bureau13, I have an extra section of the braided cloth silicone hose if you need it. I bought 2' from Paragon Products (see: https://www.paragon-products.com/Porsche-Clutch-Hose-p/n.020.350.1.htm) and didn't need nearly that much. Shoot me a PM if you are interested. Free to good home.
Original hose on the left...the extra hose I have on the right.

I was just looking at that product on Paragon's site yesterday, wondering how much I actually needed. If you think the amount you have left is sufficient I will definitely take you up on that, thanks! I'll PM you...

The leftover section I have will do the trick. I'll drop it in the mail to you.
I don't recall exactly how much is needed...but it is less than a foot.

So I don't have the replacement master and slave cylinders yet (they've been ordered) but I was taking a look at the master tonight...I can't even see it. What all are you guys removing to get to it. It seems mainly hoses and stuff on the top, but how on earth do you get to the bottom bolt?! _________________ -----------------------------------------

Any tricks to lining up the hard line from the slave cylinder so that it can get clamped back in the bracket? Maybe I shouldn't have removed it from the bracket in the fist place, but I couldn't get any sort of tool on the nut to loosen it to replace the flex line without unclamping it. Unfortunately, it is now coming it at an angle and I can't figure out a way to change that. I've tried it both attached to the slave and not attached. I suck at puzzles and tetris so I suppose this is no surprise.
See the picture if it's not clear what I'm talking about:

Edit: OK let's do it this way:

Not sure if I have a solution...but I know what you mean. I replaced the flex line and had to remove both together to loosen that nut.
I seem to remember placing the line in the bracket...and wiggling/twisting it around until things lined up.
One other thing....I wasn't trying to line things up looking down....I was under the front bumper looking up to the MC and down to the slave. Lot's of light helps too. _________________ 1981 Porsche 931 w/S1 engine & g31 transmission. Water-cooled intercooler |

I'll try it from that angle, thanks

Couple of pics...
Pic 1 shows the flex line in the bracket and pointing up...note the angle.
Pics 2 and 3 - look into the shadows at the hard line...see how it bends...maybe see if you can get it lined up like that...then try to attach it.
Good luck.
