So given that my car is a 1982 931 with the five-lug mesh 15" wheels...what size tires am I supposed to have? I need to get new ones, and what I have now are 195/60R15. Mysteriously, Tire Rack does not show that as one of the stock sizes for this vehicle. For the 15" wheels, they show either 185/70, 195/65 or 215/60.

Thanks for that. I always forget about that section of the site, lol.

Of course, it's still confusing...apparently my tires are not a stock size at all. Probably because some of the stock sizes are not so easy to find anymore? I'm not sure I really want a taller sidewall than I currently have. I guess I can stick with 195/60 or go to something like 205/55? I guess I'll see what's available.

The stock size is 185/70 and I recently change brand new ones from Omni Tyres - Radar at c.$70 per piece. It’s the cheapest compared to Pirelli or Vredestein.

Stock size isn't that important. Chose a good tyre and something that fits the wheel, the esthetics and performance that you want.

I ended up going with Sumitomo HTRs in 195/60, same size that was on the car when I got it. It looks good to me, fits the wheel and seems fine. It's not rated to 200mph but oh well.

I feel like the Sumi HTR+s are what I have on my Turbo now - like them quite a lot. Very good grip in the wet, and substantially better ride and steering effort level than others I've had on previously.

If you get too high-performance of a tire on our cars, with too stiff of a sidewall, thanks to our manual steering racks I've found the steering effort gets really unpleasant at speed, not to mention the ride quality goes to shit.

Of course, being in the Detroit area, ride is always a challenge!! LOL

Edit, just checked - think the HTRs were the last set, looks like I'm back on BFGs now... well, still I do remember them being quite good.

I've liked them so far. I haven't had many miles on them yet, and right now the car is getting worked on for other reasons, but so far I'm pleased with them. Good point about the super high performance tires, I never really thought about that.
