I was watching, I'm glad it popped at the end. I think all 924's are on the creep, turbo's climbing quicker though

Considering the amount of work done to that particular car plus add the two tone paint and Pascha interior I would say that what you were originally asking was probably a fair market value price.
Now then add the "Auction Factor". Although I don't participate as I have as in the past my experience with "Collector Car" auctions as a buyer and seller representing clients goes back some 30+ years. BaT is taking advantage of this "Auction Factor" for "Collector Cars" in it's online format and although it's not quite the same as a live auction, it succeeds in capturing an essence of the auction mentality since it appeals to a certain clientele who revel in that sort of thing, hence the higher than "Market Value" prices that are often attained at auction versus a private sale.
Personally I think that the 924 prices may be slowly rising, very slowly rising, but nothing that I would consider anywhere close to "Investment" grade. I don't think the USA will come even marginally close to the values seen in Europe or Australia. The pool of buyers/enthusiasts for this model is too small, passionate no denying that, but still too small.

On one hand I hope that 924/turbo/S do not become investment grade motors. Leave them in the hands of enthusiasts who still want to drive them

Actually, wasn't that an online auction and it got bid up to $20K?
There is also a 1982 64,xxx mile car on eBay with a BIN of $15,900. It's been up there for a while and so far no sale.
However these two may be the exceptions as I've been following the sales of 924 Turbos fairly closely, although not religiously, for the last few months as I have two "Field Finds" that I need to do something with. Many running 924 Turbos that are in less than pristine, but good driver shape are bringing much less than the two examples above and even less than what Rasta sold his for. Non-runners such as my '81 are worth much more in parts than whole, even with low mileage, I'm afraid...which is why I've decided to part it out even though it's a "Box A" 23,198 mile car that's been sitting for 29 years!

I'd disagree about the N/A and to lesser extent S. You can still pick up perfect N/A for £1-2k regularly on ebay. Nine out of ten cars are "projects" going for a few hundred at best.

A lot of N/A are getting broken to provide spares for Turbos. Even a perfect condition N/A is worth more in parts than whole right now. It makes owning an N/A a difficult proposition when you know that it makes more sense to break the car than to keep it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the N/A go virtually extinct in the next decade or so unless values pick up.

Really??? Several points I would challenge in your post.

The December 2019 Market Update for 924, 944, 968 and 928 in Excellence magazine lists 1980-82 924 turbo values as Average $6000, Good $7000 and Excellence $8000. The article starts out by saying "in the last 12 months, the values of all these models have been virtually unchanged."

I'm not sure where the values are going but I do think that a 924 turbo that is a "good driver" or above is a good value to get into a Porsche that is fun to drive. Especially with the prices of 74-89 911s these days...check out recent sales on BAT. 911SCs and even 3.2 Carreras used to be affordable. I bought a 1978 911SC targa for $7K in 1998. It needed work and I eventually had to have the engine rebuilt. Sold it for $12K and just about broke even. I thought I did well...looking at the market now the car is probably worth $30K or something. The 924 turbo will never be a 911SC but it does drive like an old Porsche. I've owned a 1988 944, 1986 944 turbo and a 1995 968 convertible; I enjoyed them all but the 931 is probably the most fun to drive...probably because of how the boost spools up and the light feel. I also like the manual steering. Reminds me of driving my old 911 but don't have to worry as much about the rear end swinging around.

The 82 931 on Ebay mentioned above now as a BIN of $13,900.

Somebody here should scoop it up and confirm that the values have gone up.

Very well presented and detailed sorted 924 t (932) sold in oz a couple months ago , around 22k.

This is about top dollar for any recent sale.

Sold By an OCD anal pedant ( good mate) to a pedantic enthusiast. So happy marriage .

That said most in oz are not at that cars standard and most asking prices for 924’s and specifically turbos can be aspirational

1981 924 turbo on BAT

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1981-porsche-924-turbo-5/

CURRENT BID: $8,600 ENDS IN: 3 days

Will be interesting to see if this one breaks $10K. Sure looks clean. I just want the carpet set.

The test drive video is interesting. It sounds like someone is kicking the back seat. Or maybe the spin cycle of a washing machine with an unbalanced load.
Gets very load at around 23 seconds.
