|
|
Hey folks, we blew up the head on our 924 in our last LeMons race...
Seems like the car doesn't run long without water being pumped through the motor.
We want to sell the car and move on, but we'd like to get it running before getting rid of it.
Has anyone put any other head on this motor?
Does a VW 1.8 head fit? bolt pattern work?
Anyone near NY city/Brooklyn have a cheap head they want to get rid of???
Thanks.

Probably just needs a headgasket
What 1.8? There is no 924 with a 1.8 engine, only the 924 head will fit. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

only a 924, 924 turbo, or AMC Grimlin 2.0 head will fit..
Maybe those old "audi van"s our engine supposedly comes from would fit?
They are all as rare as hens teeth though and a step backwards in performance.. I wouldn't say they are practical options at all..
Your probably best off posting a want to buy a head thread here and buying one from someone on the board..
BTW people here have been searching for 16 valve heads to fit for decades, and nothing.. _________________ 80 Turbo - Slightly Modified |

Most engines will run longer without oil than without water.... So, no big surprise.
A new head gasket and maybe skim the head if it warped, you cant skim it much. |

Someone is modifying a Ford 16V head to fit the 924 block.

What kind of modification is necessary? Is this something any one of us could do without costing too much. |

No.
Same cylinder spacing, basically everything else needs modifying.
Not really a worthwhile effort in my opinion, the stock heads can flow pretty decent, maybe not 200 hp NA, but if you want that power level add some boost. |

Audi 100 2.0 is the same head but uses carburetors so no injector holes. |

I'm an 8 hours drive away but I do have a 2.0 head that has been verified and aligned that I can sell if you need it. _________________ 1979 924 NA |

The shop said the head was junk. The exhaust port on the #2 cylinder had massive holes in it as well as material missing from the little space between the #1 and #2 cylinders...
Thanks for all the help. Sorry it took me two weeks to get back on here... _________________ I'm a 924 newbie...be kind. |
