I bought a 1980 924. Car runs good just had few starting problems.
how can i find out if the engine matches the body numbers; So I can be sure on the correct ignition timing , |

You could just time it with a timing light.
As far as I know, with the normally aspirated 924, there weren't many (if any) changes to the engine.
You could possibly have a non-stock distributor, in which case it woulf be best to use a timing light anyway. |

Probably fuel issues.

You can't. Not even Porsche have records to confirm "matching numbers". |
