I’ve a RHD ‘79 n/a

Approx 3 -4 months ago developed an intermittent failure to proceed. The fuel pump would cease to operate. Usually fixed by grabbing the fuse /relay board and or wiring into it and a little jiggle.

Car would fire again.

The other issue been the headlights would not always pop up, when the switch activated.. it might behave for a week or two then not work. Then miraculously pop up .

Approx 8 weeks ago - swapped in. a new water pump.

Reverse car off ramps . Cup of tea an hour later . The car wouldn’t start . Period. Everything functioned except fuel pump.

Started checking

On fuse relay board - Burnt black wire and a violet wire going from G spade connector, to fuel pump relay had corroded and broken away.

A multitude of other spliced wires in loom for an after market alarm and after market stereo. All known shit has been cut out and factory wires repaired.

Pulled fuse relay board part and cleaned it , replacing the damaged broken metal components with a spare I have. Reassembled and reinstalled in car.

Reason for corrosion I’m board ... usual. Battery acid etc caused major rust hole below battery . Allowing Alot of water over time to enter the car and electrics. Rust repair next once elec sorted.

4 days ago with board back in and burnt wires replaced . Car fired up 😀😀😀😀

Great!!!!

Except.

Pop up lights not working and driving lights - in Haynes manual described as ‘extra headlights, remain on .

All other light functions high low beam , indicators and brake.

ok this is where it gets odd.

Prior to this. Pop up lights when they would work and driving lights would happen when using the switch .which on RHD cars to the right of steering wheel.

What now happens is pop up lights will activate - only - when the switch is first turned on and the light switch stalk on steering column flashed. To lower lights whether ignition on or off , you have to hold on the flash function of the driving lights.

Further fuse 6 which in Haynes manual says is for concealed headlight motor and interior lights - once removed will unpower the driving lights whether ignition on or off.

Fuse 5 which in Haynes says for additional driving lights , does nothing .

I’m a bit flummoxed

Any ideas ?

Thx

Thanks I’ll check fuse five and six again with the wiring. However for a brief moment, when everything powered up again, aside from the headlights been temperamental about coming up utilising the switch on the right hand side of the steering wheel, everything function and accordingly. However still no power to fuse five.

I’m hoping that it could be as simple as that . A swapped wire and not any issue with the rebuild fuse board relay board.
