|

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 924 and I'm having issues finding an alternator belt that will fit. The belt that was on the car is a 15350. It was a very tight fit even with the alternator adjuster loosened as much as possible. A new one of the same size simply won't fit even by removing the water pump pulley for installation. The old belt was cut when I took it off so I can't just reuse it until I find the correct one.
I checked the PET and found 2 different belts listed for the 924. My car was manufactured in 1/1980 so it does have the larger 66mm alternator pulley. The 15350 belt is listed as the correct belt (for both pulley diameters somehow?). I tried a 10x900 belt on the recommendation of another user on here. It did go on but was loose at maximum adjustment.
Can anyone tell me what belt I should buy? I see a 15356 belt listed on rock auto, but I don't want to order a 3rd belt and wait another week just to find out that it won't fit. This is the last thing I need to get this car back on the road after my camshaft failure, so I'd really appreciate any help!

Try a 10x888, which is the alternative size. _________________ 1984 n/a Ruby Red Metallic

I remember having the same issue with my '78 NA racecar.
We used to put the belt onto the alternator, which was loosely held into its brackets. Then place the belt into the water pump pulley which was not yet attached to the pump.
Then, pull the WP pulley over and over the WP boss, and attach the bolts.
Maybe it will work for you. _________________ 1987 924S SPEC car

Unless I'm overlooking something, the 15350 belt is 10x889 and is too short so a 10x888 won't work either. I did try slacking the alternator all the way and removing the water pump pulley for installation, but there was no possible way to get the pulley back on with the belt on there. Simply put, it's the wrong belt.
This car has been laid up almost all summer because I kept getting the wrong parts in the mail (not just belts). I came to the conclusion that my time and having an operable car is worth way more to me than a few $10 belts, so I ordered about 10 different belts and I'll figure out which one fits. I will report back with what works. Maybe I can save somebody a little bit of frustration in _________________ 1980 924 NA, US model

Just to close this thread out, I got a gigantic box of belts in the mail today. The best fit was a dayco 15360. It fits like a glove. When tightened, the adjuster is right in the middle of the slot.
So a 15350 belt is for the small pulley (I assume) and a 15360 belt fits with the large pulley. Hopefully this information saves someone else some time, money, and frustration down the road.
Now, off to set the timing, change the oil, and bleed the coolant! _________________ 1980 924 NA, US model
