I guess any open deck design can not compete with an iron closed deck. Anyway, there's another obvious disadvantage too as I discovered yesterday. I opened up a M44/41 engine that I bought cheap and therefore in unknown condition. No.4 cylinder and piston seriously damaged. I've seen pistons scraped to hell with no visual damage to the bore but when the pistons "grab" on these alloy/Nikasil (or was it Alusil?)bores it's carnage!

Raceboy,

I've already been doing some preliminary work, and i think we could do something VERY similar to the Audi 5 cylinder 20V head.
Steve

would that disqualify you in your catagory if you had an audi engine, I mean the whole engine, rather than making a custom head you could stick the audi engine in for less I would think. you wouldn't have to worry about anything then.. except how you would get more traction.

Do any companies make aftermarket cylinder heads for the 5 cylinder audi engine? Maybe that would be the crew to go after for a 931 dohc head.

I'm not sure since people do quite a lot to the 5cyl without touching the engine basics and make high hp. you have to worry about destroying transmissions before you need to worry about your cylinder head.

might look into the VW 16V cyl head, it is very similar to the audi 20v head minus one cyl. i'm not sure but i think it has the same bore spacing as the audi block. may be very close to bolting up. somthing to look into if tying to build a custom 16V head for the 2l

Talk of the audi turbo 5 cylinder is always concerting. symphonic concerting.

Performance of a six, with the economy of a four.

Does anyone have Steve/BassGTs old build photos saved, particularly the seam welding, that they could please re-host and share for prosperity? I know I have them saved ona n old external HD but I can't find the power cable for it!

Is this the original orange shell or the one being welded up by PrepFab? I know where the PrepFab shell is now. Its turning into a GTP rep. Not so sure about the orange shell. It was being broken up.
