|

Been randomly experience something new with my 87 924s. With normal driving I have experienced a sudden power loss followed by the engine shutting down. It forces me to the side of the road to restart engine and the proceed as normal.
Anybody have any ides why this is happening? |

This has happened to me last year....quite frightening really. I changed the DME relay and all has been good. Go for an OEM one though....I bought an old URO one which was 'crapado' straight out of the box.....for info, if you do have a URO one..this may be useful https://porsche924.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=32555
Just also make sure the relay bracket that holds all the fuses is secure....we have a fair bit of vibrations in our cars and it all helps to keep connections snug and tight.
Good luck!

Tried the new relay without success. My issue seems only to manifest itself with hard acceleration. Could it be something else?
When pressed with purpose the car shuts off and battery light comes on. Trying to restart while rolliing in neutral with clutch in doesn't work however at a dead stop I have no issues restarting |

Ok...feel your pain..so what exact, make, relay did you plug in?
Is the fuse relay board all seated correctly? I had mine where it was not fixed into the left hand side..and with all the vibrations took out a wire which shut it down..... _________________ 9242 - 1988 |

Seems fine...for me...I would double check all the pins from the back side of the relay...to make sure that all the pins connect correctly and wires connect solidly..I can not stress enough that ours cars do vibrate a lot more than your normal modern car and IF the wires are not on tight..they WILL wiggle free and shut you down! Just get behind that fuse relay board and have a good look....I thought I did..several times, but found a loose wire.............cost me 3x new DME relays.....quite often the challenges we have are hidden in plain sight! _________________ 9242 - 1988 |

Alright Mike... you're my ace now.. dont fail me
How do I remove the panel to get behind it..
I began to attempt this.. but I have a habit of making things worse.
There appears to be one screw holding it in the mounting bracket.. then it looks like a push up and fold out process clearing a tab and slotted grove on right side of panel..
Is that it?? or am i missing something.
Now on the the making it worse..
I began this process but decided to stop and make sure i am correct.. I must have jiggled the DME wiring even more loose because now the car will only run for like 15 seconds before cutting off.
Side note..prior to my investigation
In neutral i was able to throttle the engine up and kill it using the throttle cable on the engine.
could I also have an issue with the fuel pump itself? |

OK...so not rocket science........to get behind it...just unscrew the row of relays and pull it up and out of its fittings....you need to make sure all wires behind the relays are seated properly in the relays themselves....I had one loose wire in the DME relay that with all the vibrations shook it loose and it shut down....make sure the bracket that holds all the relays in place is not loose......for my RHD car there is a male part on the left hand side that goes into a female hole then on the right a male part just hooks over......bon chance.

I would check the fuel pump fuse and make sure it and the contacts in the fuse panel are good and clean. The fuse is No.2 on the aux fuse panel on the LHS of the passenger footwell (in RHD cars), think it's in the same location on LHD cars. Fuses are numbered from the firewall end should be 16A. _________________ 1984 n/a Ruby Red Metallic
