Duncan

I have been fighting for a while now with installing a new clutch pedal return spring.
Any advice would be really welcome.

Did any of you replace this spring without removing the dash and any electrical leads?

Lazy day…

In het verleden heb ik daar wel geprutst en heb inderdaad de zekeringskast verwijderd en de bedrading zoveel mogelijk uit beeld gehangen. Het instrumenten kluster en het stuur verwijderen geeft ook een duidelijker doorkijkje van wat je onder je stuurkolom aan het ondernemen bent.

Geen makkie. Uit het blote hoofd hoe je de veer weer op zijn plek krijgt:
Grijp de veer stevig vast met een tangetje voor aan in de spiraal van de veer (met bot knip bekje van oud tangetje) wanneer het achterste ophangpunt reeds is bevestigd.
Gebruik een lange schroevendraaier of zo iets dergelijks als hevel; vind hiervoor een geschikt rustpunt bovenin of opzij van omringende ruimte.
Neem nu de hevel zo laag/ver mogelijk vast voor maximale lift en haal deze naar je toe terwijl het tangetje er tegen aan rust. Naar ik hoop heb je nog ruimte om het haakje achter het pedaal eind te sturen.

Hoi Harm,

Dank je wel voor het advies.
Bij mij zat de veer denk ik in een gaatje in het pedaal, net zoals het in de Haynes tekening staat en niet om het pedaal heen.
Ik heb het tot nu toe andersom geprobeerd, dus eerst in het gaatje van het pedaal en dan aan het lipje proberen te haken.
Ik zal het nu andersom proberen.

De oude veer was gebroken.

I haven't replaced a clutch pedal spring yet so I don't know if this will work for your application, but I've used the "penny trick" for installing various strong springs a few times and it always seems to work well.

Basically, you need to bend the spring into a "C" shape and put coins between each spring loop. Then bend in the opposite direction and fill the other side with coins. Eventually you end up with something like this:

Now you can just hook the spring in place with your hands. Once installed, you can stretch it more with the pedal to get the coins out.

No success yet.

First I used 5 euro cent coins and stuffed the spring, still too short.
Then I used thicker 10 euro cent coins, still too short.

Now I ordered a spring installation hook and if that does not work I give up.
This is by far the hardest job I had to do on the 924 in 16 years. It is close to impossible...
