Hello! I have a problem that the targa roof on my '79 924 is not sitting flush. I've replaced the main seal, it doesn't leak and it's locked down on all 4 points. Has anyone got ideas what could be causing it not to sit flush all the way around? Anything I could look out for? Thanks, Alain

The new seals are the problem. They appear not to be exactly the same as the originals causing the panel to be tight and sit proud. Everyone who has changed in the UK has noted the same problem. I've bought aftermarket and Porsche seal to find both have the problem. On a positive, its water tight!

From the website of my seal supplier:
Quote:
Since our seal is a new seal you will notice a little difference in your car’s sunroof once installed. The new seal is not compressed yet like the old seal is (20+ years of compression), and this could make the sunroof not sit as flush as it used to. We have noticed that over time the seal will compress and the sunroof will sit more flush again. This is the case with the OEM seal and ours, but this seal tends to sit more flush than the OEM does.

Bullshit. The new is noticeably larger than the old, both aftermarket and Porsche supplied. Probably the same manufacturer. My seal has been in the car for 4 years and still doesn't sit flush like the old. Both the seal protrudes above the roof line as does the panel. #theydontmakethemliketheyusedto!

I just put the exact same one on my 931 and it has the same problem...sits a little high. But it is a pretty tight seal on the plus side.

Thanks everyone for the input!! So I'm not the only one. At least it's good to know there's nothing seriously wrong with my roof. As I'm a stubborn perfectionist, I'll look into how I can nevertheless get a flush water-tight roof. If I discover anything revolutionary, I'll be sure to let you know.
