I don't post here to often but i do lurk a lot.
I have bit the bullet and plan on starting a new project. Something i can enjoy with out getting into trouble on the streets.

The car is being built to compete at a "World Time Attack" level, In a club sprint class. So there are some limitations to what i can and cannot do.

Initially it has to be a "street legal" track car to an extent.

Initial Plans:
- interior
Everything must go. There will be a few things going back on once finished, i.e dash & door trims.
All new electricals/wiring.
- Body work
Flairs to get big tyres under it, Address front bumper for aero and rear aero. Also a coat of paint.
- Engine
Keep the 2L, build it and squeeze as much power and reliability out of it as possible.
All electronic, Standalone ect..
- Driveline
It's an auto, so i'll be swapping that out for a manual from a 944 turbo or a 968 transaxle. Which ever i find i suppose.
- Suspension
4 to a 5 stud conversion. big brakes all around. (i have had a few people tell me the stock brakes are good, But for my application they will not cut it)

The main focus of the project is to make everything we can in-house.
I suspect it'll take me either a year or 2 years to complete. I hope to make the WTAC event next year in October but cannot tell what the future holds as this isn't any priority build.

First thing will be completely stripping the interior.
Remove the auto and torque tube.
remove pretty much everything from the engine bay as i wont need most of it.
Then from there i'll work out what's next.

Any input is welcome

So here's some photos:

Makings of a race car! Source a tranny, shifter and a few minor other parts (mmmphs ) and go racing.

I'll need to source a fair amount of stuff. trans and a whole brake set up for a 5 stud conversion.
I have a lot of work a head of me!

Great project. 5 stud stuff is not "that" hard to find but can be expensive down here.

What about getting a wrecked 944 and transferring everything across? Moving the xmember, you could take the engine as well.

I'm in no rush. But i've already got a few people emailing me with what they can give me.

I though about getting a 944. But i really want to modify the 2L engine. I can see some potential in it.
No balance shafts, iron block, closed deck. seems like i can have fun with it.
and if i did get a 944, a lot of it would be useless as i want to track it, i rather the 4 pot brakes and a stronger transaxel. So ideally i'd want a s2 or 968.

Lightweight n/a is so much fun, skip the 2.5 lump, so much complexity for an over complex and heavy engine, that also have some oil starvation issues on track. Maybe add a hotter cam for some extra horsepower on top and for a more enjoyable power curve.

Ive driven some racing 924s that are around 1000kgs, and it really is among the most fun you can have in a transaxle porsche, especially in realtion to cost. god luck !!

Nothing wrong with the 944 2.5 if you know what you're doing with it.

a bigger cam will happen, The engine will be turbocharged.

I plan to keep the car light as possible. It will be a lot of fun!

Had a few hours to work on the car today.

Just pulled out the wiring harness + all the rest of the wiring. Although i left the tail light+fuel pump wires as there's no point in re wiring those.
Everything else that will be used like headlights will be rewired with new a new fuse box ect.
Also plan to keep the original cluster with the 3 gauges and wire in all the warning lights.

All that's left in the interior is the sound deadening that will be removed soon.

Got a little more done today. removed more from the engine bay.
Got the engine on the stand, pulled it apart and cleaned up a few bits and pieces.

Looking good!

Are you going to get the head machined at all?

Keep up the pics

Thanks mate!

We haven't checked the head for straightness, but probably. We can do that our selves, it's not big deal unless there's serious pitting. But after cleaning it, it looks like the head is in great shape.

We'll port match it. and clean up the exhaust side. New valve springs, guides ect will be put in also.

Just playing with the injectors and rail tonight. Found my 750cc injectors from the 944 build that i never used. They're Low Impedance injectors. I still have the resistors i made if i do use them, But i'm not to sure if i will as they appear to touch the head.

The injectors are in the CIS holes. They're a little loose, but maybe drill them out and put in a sleeve or something similar.

We made the fuel rail. and i gave it a polish.

Got started sanding the body back so i can paint the exterior.

While i wait for the flairs i got started on both the rear 1/4 pannels and the front 1/4 pannels. They both will be cut so i didn't go to close to the wheel arches. I just used an orbital with 80 grit sandpaper to rip the paint off it. I'll have to hand sand the edges and corners ect. It's not going to be a show car so as long as it's got a decent coat of paint on it i'll be happy.
Did i mention some moron painted it...?

Update:

Last week a huge box arrived at my shop. It included some fiberglass items.
Slowly making them fit and bolting them on. Still plenty of sanding to be done, i waited until these arrived so i could start cutting before i sand spots i don't need to sand ect.

For the keen eye, They are Broadfoot 944 GT2 flares.
One side is mounted, more or less to see what modifications need to be done ect before i get to stuck into the body work. the other side will get mounted later once i'm happy with the first side.

Because the car is sanded back and is in 6 different colours from the undercoat ect. the photo is in black and white to get the attention away from sanding.
So here's the teaser shot.

Excellent, cant wait to see how it looks with this kit. Always wondered how it would look on a 924.
