I used a mobile company (they come to your house) because I didn’t want to drive the car with the smashed windshield and it’s convenient. I talk to the guy on the phone multiple times to make sure that we were ordering the right windshield and explained the modification I wanted to do.

They came on Saturday morning, pulled the old windshield in a minute, clean up the surface, prep the new windshield and test fit before putting down the urethane. Pull out the windshield, lay down the urethane and put in the windshield. Unfortunately, the urethane bead was too small and the windshield was going down too low. So we let it sit for few days to dry and they came back on Wednesday (at no extra fee) pull it out, cleaned up and lay down a bigger bead of urethane and set the windshield in.

I very pleased with the result and would recommend the guys I used to anyone interest to do this mod in the region.

1- Remove the aluminum railing and clips and wiper arms.
2-You may need 944/951 wiper arms, slight different design so the arm doesn’t hit the windshield that will sit higher.
3-No need to cut/buff the clip support tabs.
4-I used the no antenna windshield FW360, standard for 924 and 944.
5-Your glass guy will have to lay a large diameter bead of urethane, around 9/16”
6-My guy used universal windshield molding “Gold Glass Group (GGG) 108 J”
7-Beaware, you will end up with a gap between your interior trim (A-pillar, head liner and dashboard) of about ½” from where the urethane is visible.

I wonder if a 944 a pillar interior piece would correct that gap.

That is a good idea. I will keep that in mind for when I redo the inside (carpet and trims).

I can't wait to go for a drive, the windshield guy recommend that I wait 2 days based on the amount of urethane used.

I wrote this "How to" before installing my wipe ares. Based on other members experience I was lead to believe that I would need 944/951 wipe arms. Not only that my 924 arms clear the windshield (doesn't hit) but the 951 arms wouldn't fit as the wiper sit too high and doesn't sit on the window in rest position.

I did this upgrade about 4 years ago on mine. Used a 911 finnishing strip round the screen and did grind a bit off the left hand side wiper arm just to safe with clearance. Its a great mod, improves the look of the car.

Here's some measurements I took.

Recessed windshield pillar in a 924S. Looks like it's about 2" (51mm) from the windsheild to the edge.

Pillar in a 1986 944. The pillar is fatter so I couldn't get it in the same spot on the windsheild. Not sure if that will affect the mesurement, but anyway this one appears to be about 2 5/16" (59mm).

I hope that helps!

Did you ever trim out the interior to hide the bead of adhesive?

Also, wondering if anyone has tried to add a late windshield with antenna. I'd love to delete the external antenna on my white car.

No, you only see it when you look for it. When sitting in the seat, it is kind of hidden behind the A pillar trim. I don't see it and I don't think the average car guy would notice.

hi all, just to confirm, the 931 windshield has to be replaced by a 944 serie 2, for this upgrade ? that cannot be done with the 931 windshield and a "proper" rubber seal?
