Why can we not get a machinest and a electrical engineer together with some beers and get them to reverse engineer a '81/'82 crank sensor, and make a bunch......

I'll buy the beer

Your lack of Internet skills sucks

Use Google to search the site by adding "site:924board.org" to the end of the search string.

Enjoy.

Nearest we can tell, it is a two-coil VR sensor, with unknown resistance characteristics. No one is willing to sacrifice a working unit to science, and no one has even been willing to contribute a failed unit for dissection. I have done some limited search for two-coil vr sensors to see if something could be fabricated, but didn't get anywhere with it.

maybe I can work with Dan on this. We are close and I can wind coils if needed.

I'll dig around and see what I have to donate to science

What is the failure mode? Is it the harness, or the sensor itself?

I don't know. The car showed the signs of crank sensor failure, and I couldn't find a way to properly test the sensor. I had plans to convert ignition and later EFI with megasquirt so I went ahead and did it earlier than planned. The harness was fine so I doubt that was the issue. As far as i know the sensor could still be functional. How the sensor got the damage you can see in the picture, I have no clue, it happened when I wasn't the owner. This was the bolt holding the sensor in place. I keep on getting surprises with this car.

While I'm at it, look what I found in the wastegate.
