My question has to do with readying the car (its a 1979 924) for Bonneville (where air resistance is everything). LSR aero guru's tell me that the closer the car is to the ground, the lower the effective frontal area and its air resistance.

Looking at the car's front suspension camber adjustment excentrics, it appears that the ability to offset the added camber that comes with lowering the front end is pretty limited.

My question then, is how low can I go and still get back to a fairly zero degree camber setting with that available adjustment?

In theory, your control arms shouldn't go past horizontal.

Can you add some front aero? Like skirting?

I'm not an expert but your front area will still be the same lowered or not.
If you dont want air under the car you can lower it a bit and use a front lip.
You can lower it about an inch and still get 0 deg camber or very close if i'm not mistaken.
Can you get us some pictures of the car being prepared for this?
I'm guessing you're going without mirrors, the 924 small spoiler hatch, filled/closed panel gaps..right?

For what you're doing... who cares?

If the camber adjustment becomes a problem - camber plates are the answer.

Ours are past horizontal - and we turn!

I thought the same thing, but the experienced land racers I talk to tell me that the effect of lowering a 72" wide car two inches (144 square inches) is effectively like reducing the frontal area by a square foot. Most LSR cars run absolutely as close to the ground as possible and that appears to be the reason.

If you don't want air under the car you can lower it a bit and use a front lip.

Unfortunately the class I'm running (Classic Production) forbids any non stock body additions / changes, so no air dam. I am runnning the stock lip.

I'll post one when I figure out the process.

Mirror removal is permitted but as mentioned above, no aero changes are authorized- to include taping up the body seams.

IIRC you could order an NA with the 931 rear spoiler and that spoiler reduced CD.

Can you add one if it was an original option?

Eddie:
My understanding of the class rule is that if the 931 spoiler was factory option that could be ordered on the car from the factory, it is permissible. If it was a dealer add on, it's not. Was it a factory option available on the 79 NA car?

Eddie.
Thanks. That's what I suspected. Not legal on my NA car.
