Hello,

I have a badly damaged cilnderhead.
I need to shave around 0.65 mm, but is already at his minimum wear limit.

Is this possible?
Will valves hit the pistons?
What wil be THE cr? It is a 1979 931. I expert +0.5??

Thanks

It is possible, particularly with the use of Cometic Multi-Layer Steel gaskets, you can make up the difference.

Standard gasket thickness was .049";
.045" + .065" = .110";

So you could use a .098" ($136) thickness gasket or a .120" ($224) thickness gasket to be pretty close to OEM spec without too much concern regarding interference or increase in compression ratio.

You may still require a Vernier pulley (adjustable cam sprocket) in order to get the timing dialed in correctly, especially if you opt for the .098" gasket, because the head + gasket combination will still be outside of the wear limit.

Oops You are correct.

.65mm = .026"

So .026" + .045" = .071"

So you could select .070" or .075" MLS gasket.

I went to an revision company, and they day that it was to bad.
The head needs to be welded and than shaved.
It was already 0.5mm under the min wear limit, and i need to shave at least an other 0.6mm.

This is too much. You could see already in the sparkplug hole that the head was shaved.

It will be relative costly....

Sorry to hear the bad news

One of our forum members, Kenodog, has several used heads available for sale, send him a PM. It would probably be cheaper to have one shipped to you unless you can find one locally.

Well, i can find a good head...and it is just to build a spare engine.
I Will keep the head, Some day, it Will be worth to repair it.
The crankcase and block is fine.
Have 4 good pistons, so with a new set of rings the engine is worth to rebuild.

It is difficult to find good parts.
I also have a turbo...with a cracked exhausthaus....hopefuly i can find a good one.
I aso have a k26 8.10 gts turbo, but i think it is to big for a standaard engine.?

Correct, it is. It would work on my modified engine perfectly. I'll trade a cylinder head and it'll be cheaper to post than the US

Is it this one??

K26-2670GA/8.10
5326-988-7008

If so would't this be worth much more than just a bigger turbo, for collector value, or to restore an original GTS?
It being a real GTS turbocharger and all, if it is, I don't think I would just run it on some modded 931..

Any way you could post pics of this thing and the tag numbers for my curiosity?
