my "friend" backed into my drivers side door this weekend. It's got a pretty huge dent/scrape. Dent is deep enough that I think I need to replace the door.
can I use any power window 924/944 door or do some have different mounting bolts and holes etc for the different accessories?
I know all 924 and 944 doors are basically the same. But I also know that some cars have different mirrors and different door handles and different door handle/lock mechanisms, and security plates to stop jimmying etc.

When you're done burying the body.......
The 924 or 944 door will work. The 944 door has a speaker hole, the 924 doesn't so it depends on how much that bothers you.
You can have your door fixed, the quality of the repair depends on the shop but it can be done.
Either way the paint is going to be tough to match. They'll need to blend it into the fender, quarter and possibly the roof. If you repair your door they could blend into the top of the existing door so the don't have to paint the roof.
I don't think paintless is an option. |

haha
I would rather not have a speaker grill on just one door. Would my door panel attach to a 944 door?
I'm figuring I'll probably get a gutted door with no parts, and I'll have to swap my parts over to it.
And I'm thinking I'll paint the whole car so that I don't have to worry about matching. The right rear got a (much smaller) hit and run scrape in a parking lot about a year ago. _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 N/A USA

Take it to a body shop, ask them if they can fix it without grinding/welding. There is room for a press to be used in that area, they could press it back to its shape if they are clever. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

That will buff right out
Seriously, I agree with “morghen”, take it to a good body shop.
Or as “jason c” mentioned, any 924 or 944 are interchangeable.
The speaker mounting points/hole will be cover by your non-speaker door card.
Manual and electric window use the same mounting points, I convert my electric to manual and it’s just a bolt-on job. _________________ 1976 924 N/A ROW SOLD

It's always friends or family, isn't it...
Had my buddy back his trailer hitch into the nose/badge panel of my 931. Yeah, the unique/irreplaceable one.
Then later had my MIL back her minivan into the driver's door, though not as bad as this one... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Most of the doors are interchangeable, but some early cars utilized golf I (rabbit in US?) door lock which had it's own attachment points. Don't sure thouse cars where available on US market though. _________________ WBR, Shurick

I believe by 1980 they had side impact bracing of some kind, which would get in the way of a press, and make it more difficult to straighten out the dent by hand. Also, I don't see all that much space. This is the only picture I could find

| There is a brace in there. You can tell you're car has it, you can see the dent wraps around it. The brace is held in by 12pt bolts, one on each side. You can easily remove it. |

No kidding? I never looked that closely/hard enough - good to know, for those of us who keep having to occasionally bang our doors out (as evidenced by today's POTD photo above; sadly, the car's been through many hits since then - not from friends! - and doesn't look anywhere near as nice these days)!! _________________ Vaughan Scott

Yeah, and Porsche even made access holes in the inner structure for them. I guess Christmas came early for you this year. |

My 83 has no braces in the doors.
My 1980 931 has no brace.
My 1981 931 S2 had no brace.
I have an S2 door off a car from Italy that has the brace...it might be marked dictated weather it has braces or not.
You can remove the brace like others said, and there is room for a press, don't you worry about it. Just get it to a good body shop. _________________ Supercharger and EFI kits

All models delivered to USA were required to have side impact protection. You're also able to have fiberglass bumpers & lower ride heights that we could not have. |

Looks like this brace is US-spec feature. Haven't seen those braces ever before. _________________ WBR, Shurick

If your car is a 81 or newer, an 81 or newer 924, 931, or 944 door will work.
If your car is a 80 or older, you need a 80 or older 924 or 931 door.
924, 931, and 944 complete doors are readily available from PickAPart for about $25-$30.
Get a door, install it on the car and have a body shop paint to match. |
