|
|
I've found an 81' 924 with a rear spoiler. It's not a turbo. Can you tell me which other 924 variants for 1981 would have sported a rear spoiler? Could it have been an option?
Thanks. |

924's before about 79/80 had no spoiler, after that it was a standard fitting. _________________ 1984 n/a Ruby Red Metallic

So does my Martini, until I can replace it with the correct non spoiler hatch. It was a common upgrading change to early cars to alter the look to make it look newer. _________________ 1984 n/a Ruby Red Metallic

Note that the 924 spoiler is a bit smaller than the 944 spoiler. Many folks just bought the rear glass with spoiler off of junked 944s and put them on their 924. _________________ 1979 924 NA race car

I mounted a 944 wing on my stock hatch: I find the spoiler helps the look and design of the car overall. _________________ 1977 Porsche 924 - sold

when I first got mine, I had a fiberglas aftermarket piece that slid onto the rear hatch and fit rather well. Since then, the hatch has been replaced with a 944 with rubber spoiler _________________ 1979 924 n/a

I am still looking for the hatch sides for my turbo. If you plan to get a 944 hatch then I could use just the side pieces.

I don't think any NA cars had the spoiler as a "standard" feature. There were several "special edition" models, and some of these came with the spoiler (the Weissach Special Edition for sure, and possibly the 1979 normally aspirated 924 "S"). I'm fairly certain the spoiler was an option on the later NA models, and much like the sunroof "option", it may have become more commonplace, but I think it was always part of an option package and not standard equipment.
As Chuck pointed out, the 924/931/924S spoiler is different than the 944 spoiler. The side pieces are not interchangeable between the two spoilers. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I think it is probably correct to say that no US cars had spoilers as standard, they were an option on 1982 MY, and standard on subsequent years. But by 1983 the 924 in the US was replaced by the 944 until the 924S came along. ROW had the 924 until 1985 when the S replaced it. _________________ 1984 n/a Ruby Red Metallic

The euro N/A had the spoiler as a standard fitting from (I think) the 1983 model year. Did some reserch before I bought Sunny cos I wanted the spoiler, As Ideola said sunroof was an option as was passenger door mirror! _________________ 1983 N/A

My '79 924S came with the spoiler, S decal on the hood and down the sides, snailshell tranny, sunroof delete, M471 5 bolt brake package with larger swaybars and limited slip. _________________ 1979 924 NA race car
