Pretty self explanatory title.
I'm looking for roof racks. I figured I'd ask here if anybody knows where I could find some instead of just posting a "WTB" thread on the for sale section. |

| Also do the racks have to be specifically for the 924 or are there certain "universal" racks that would work? |

There are roof racks that fit 924's; as a matter of fact, yesterday I saw a 924 driving around town that I've never seen before that had a roof rack.
I've seen two types of racks; a ski rack that holds skis parallel to the hatch, and the rack I saw yesterday.
Not much help I know. . . However, if people knew what you wanted to carry on your rack, it might help. _________________ 78 924 NA

The roof rack is very specific to the car. The forward bar attaches like
any other roof rack, but the rear bar attaches to the body by means of the
bolts that are visible behind the left and right hand top side of the rear window. Now you know what the purpose of those strange bolts is
I think it will be hard to find such a roof rack because it is specific to 924 and
944. _________________ 1983 NA Alpineweiss since 2001

As the original poster has a '78 924, those mounting points on the C pillar do not exist on pre 80 cars. Mine doesn't have them.
Pretty rare racks. Search ebay for 924/944 racks. But don't buy the C pillar mounted rack if you don't have the two either side mounting bolts. _________________ 1980 931 - forged pistons, Piper cam, K27/26 3257 6.10 hybrid turbo, 951 FMIC, custom intake, Mittelmotor dizzy & cam pulley, H&S exhaust, GAZ Gold, Fuch'ed, Quaife

You are totally right
Apologies, it is indeed only for the later cars that they mount to the body. _________________ 1983 NA Alpineweiss since 2001

Darn. As time goes on I realize more and more how much better the newer cars are in terms of upgrades/performance/options etc...
I'll see if any turn up but I won't lose any sleep over this |
