Auxiliary Air Valve.
Adjusts idle based on temperature and time.
You don't want to eliminate it. _________________ Stefan

I've removed the IAC's on older Jettas which perform a similar function as the Aux Air Valve. Generally, they are helpful if you're looking to use the AC because engaging the compressor typically reduces idle speed. I see no reason to remove the aux air valve but if you really want to, crank up the idle a bit before you do. _________________ Brian

I've thought about replacing mine with a solenoid that could be controlled from the cabin.
Also have thought about doing the same with the warm up regulator. Would really need to be in tune with your car to be reliable. _________________ I got nothin'

The later model Bosch electronic IAC generally had oily air channeled into them (My old Saab and Jetta was like this) so after many years (like 10 years) of running this way, they would become sticky and would stop working properly. With my Saab, I just cleaned the sucker out real good with a tooth brush and carb cleaner and it worked again. I tried the same method on my Jetta but it didn't fix it so we removed it. We had to bump the idle up just a hair, and the idle ran a bit higher when the car was warmed up.
Regardless, if you're car is a daily driver and you want it to run nice and smooth, I'd just clean it up and leave it. If you're wanting to do something else, remove the thing, clean up the vacuum lines, and bump the idle up. _________________ Brian

| Mine was bad. Caused the idle to function poorly. Sometimes adjusting around it started to cause more issues. Hard to find so I rebuilt mine. Now works well. The timing is right on with the closing. Finding the correct wire to rebuild with is difficult and a little expensive. OHMs are directly related to the wire length. |
