Hi - trying to get the A/C working on my 1983 Porsche 924 NA. Unfortunately, after loading with dye, local A/C shop tells me the compressor is leaking badly. I'm having trouble identifying it though, because the plate has come off at some point in the past, and there are no identifiers anywhere. I've noted that there appears to be two basic styles. Mine looks like this one:

and has the same 2 groove clutch etc.

It has a separate blower/fan under the passenger side dash. The A/C is controlled by a separate switch that is installed under the steering wheel.

BUT... I thought the 1979 and forward cars had a compressor that looks more like this?

Does anyone have any experience - perhaps they could tell me which compressor I'm looking at in my car - were there only 2 styles - in which case I can just go ahead and buy the 1978 style compressor?

Thanks Alan, does your car have the 2 groove clutch and the under-dash blower unit as well?

Alan, you're a champion. That's the unit I have - with a slightly cleaner spot where your label is... Thanks a lot. I'll let you get back to polishing the Ferrari.

At least it is a real one not like these pretend Ferraris based on 924's and 944's

Yeah, I never understood the logic, "I want a Ferrari. So, what I'll do is buy a Porsche and blu-tac a wooden spoiler on..." etc.
