In the next few weeks I will finally have the time to upgrade the heater system in the 924 to the 944 blower. In the process I was thinking of converting my wiper assembly to the 944 unit as well, but the early assemblies seem to be in short supply so instead I'm gonna service mine.

The problem I'm having is 2 fold:

1) the wipers are slow as shit even on full blast. I'm hoping greasing the transmission will help this.

2) my passenger side wiper keeps coming loose from the stud. I've tried replacing the bolt with one with a nylon lock ring, adding a lock washer, using lock tight, and taping and dying the treads to clean them up. Nothing seems to keep my passenger wiper fixed to the stud.

Any suggestions for problem 2? Is there some special washer or something that I may be missing?

If not, anybody got a good unit for sale?

I ill be curious if you decide to rebuild. I had the same issue with slow wipers.
Eventually I greased all connections with white lithium and the problem went away.
I would however like to see a motor tear own.

The wipers on my 924 are very slow as well. Went through with taking it apart (sorry, no pictures) and It looked brand new inside. you could literally see the thumb prints in the putty they put on the motor to balance it. No ideas as to why it's so slow. NOT buying a new one, ha!

Poor electrical connection to the motor.

Increase the amount of power the motor can draw and it will go faster.

Poor internal connections or poor lubrication of the bushings in the motor.

Pull the motor apart, clean it, make sure the brushes and commutator are clean. Clean and lubricate the bushings, make sure the commutator doesn't rub or bind.

that will help it go faster, but any suggestions for the passenger side arm that doesn't want to stay tightened?

See OP. Tried it, lock washer, lock nut. Maybe a lock washer above and below the wiper arm?

I think so, if that's the case... the splines are gone.

There is 2 924 in our local pick n pull, I can see if the stud is there and pull it for you. I think the stud is the same for the early VW's. I will chack that also.

That would be awesome, the local junkjard crushed all the 924s and 944 a few months back. I'll let you know if I will need it. I'll be working on it after Christmas.

Did you ever figure out your wiper speed issues? I am otherwise going to figure out how to get faster wipers, most likely swap to some different motor...

Reference for those who want to see the other post: Porsche 924 wiper motor upgrade
