Hello folks,

This up coming month is going to be a big one for my toofah. I've already got the fuel rail on the engine, the next step is.. well, buying everything else! I have the injector inserts figured out. Now I need to figure out which injectors I need, which fuel pressure regulator I need, and most importantly, I need to find out which MegaSquirt system to buy!

I believe I need this one: http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/ms130k-kit-with-mapdaddy4-upgrade-p-266.html

It's the basic MS1 130-K kit with the MAP Sensor. I'm not interested in fiddling with the ignition system, so I'm getting the most basic kit I can. However our cars require some kind of air metering system so I'll need the MAP Sensor.. right? I'm I on the right page here?

I'll probably post a separate thread about regulators and injectors when I get to that stage. It's going to take some time to solder the MegaSquirt system together so I'll be busy for a while!

Doesn't matter. I'm running an MS1 kit on mine (but I'm not running boost, yet.) and it runs fine. Eventually I'll move up to MS2 to gain more finite control and a faster processor.

Unless you're pushing a lot of boost, the extra range on the MAP (Map Daddy) isn't critical, but it is a nice "room to grow" option.

The most important piece isn't what kit you get (they'll all mange the fueling of your car just fine) it is how well it is wired and how well you tune it.

Spend your money and time on proper wiring and buy the TunerStudio software.

I think injectors have been discussed pretty heavily around here recently. I would look at engines with similar power levels per cylinder. I used Bosch injectors from a Turbocharged FWD Chrysler because that is what I have in spades and met the power range I had in mind for my car.

Follow the fuel injector sizing calculator on the Megasquirt.info site and then do some Google searches on the injectors for that range. Make sure you can get O-rings and connectors for whichever ones you choose.

i used some bosch injector from audi 5 cyl turbo for my 931 cleaned before using them on my car

i can't remember the bosch code but if you want i can find it

map sensor comes from a bmw engine and has alsto an intake temp sensor built in it, fitted with minor modification in the S2 manifold
again, i can check for the part number if you want

I think I'll be ok without those part numbers for now.

However, it looks like I can make do with this guy for right now - http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirti-programmable-efi-system-pcb22-kit-black-case-p-128.html. I fully intend on upgrading the software in the future, but right now I just want it running (btw what is PCB 2.2?)

Also, where can I obtain a basic fuel mapping for our engines to get this baby started when it is ready?

Oh also! Since I have an 81 931, it has hall sensor on the fly wheel. Can I make use of that or should I use the sensor that is packaged with the mega squirt?

Have you read the MegaSquirt Manual?

I printed it out for reference at the car when working on mine.

As to the hall sensor, I don't believe so. At least not without a lot of experimentation as the sensor is supposedly similar to a BMW hall sensor (not surprising given the use of Bosch by both companies) as some have replaced the stock sensor with the BMW unit. There has been some success with BMW's flywheel sensors, but I've not found a crossover yet.

I would suggest keeping it simple for the time being and pick up RPM from tach output of the ignition system.

Right, I see what you are saying. All I want is for fuel to get into the engine at this point.

On a side note, I was digging around on ebay and it turns out they have tons of injectors for sale up there. Assuming I know what the specifications are for the injectors I need, would ebay be a good place to source injectors from?

Don't see why not. Make sure they clean and you should be fine.

i preferred a 36-1 pulley for picking up a good strong and quality signal from the crank...

i used an universal triggered pulley and ford fiesta (zetec engine) sensor

think about the quality of the signal (single impulse) picked up from the volano from a 30 years old project...
