Yet another NLA part in the growing list.

900 174 045 40

This is the rubber o-ring that goes between the K26 bearing housing and the oil drain line. Just went NLA. This is a real problem...hopefully, we can find a suitably sized generic o-ring.

Anybody know anything about o-ring specifications? I presume we need to know the I.D., the thickness of the material, and the heat- and oil-resistance requirements?

Ya, o-rings are spec'd by id, cross section and material.

I can take some measurements shortly. The OEM o-ring is red...and looking at McMaster Carr, it appears that maybe the OEM unit is silicone? Check out this page:
http://www.mcmaster.com/#o-rings/=d8vxnp

Then expand the "General Properties of O-Ring Materials" section at the top of the page...and then check out the "silicone" column...

Silicon o-rings are not recommended for use with hydrocarbons (petroleum fluids such as oil)

from that list PTFE is probably the most suitable, kalrez looks good at first glance but its low temperature spec is not good. Fluoro-silicone also looks decent.

You should be able to get o-rings in any of those materials once you know the size and match it up on a o-ring sizing chart.

I have a few bags of turbo O-rings at home still in the dealership baggies, I'll dig them out and post them up.

From memory the material in Viton.

Don't burnor melt Viton, it will kill you, no joke.

Based on my measurements, the o-ring needs to be >=25mm (1") ID with a cross section of <=3mm (3/32").

Here's the kicker. A single Kalrez o-ring in this dimension is nearly $60. A package of 50 Viton® Fluoroelastomer in the same dimension is $11.08.

Viton® Fluoroelastomer resists chemicals and oil. Temperature range is -15° to +400° F. Durometer hardness is A75. Meets ASTM D2000/SAE J200. Color is black.

They also have them in brown for "easier material identification", pkg of 50 for $12.88. That's what I'm going to order.

Just ordered some in 3mmx25mm and equivalent inch measurements from McMaster. Will let everyone know how they fit once they arrive. They're only sold in packages, so I will have lots of extras if they work...

Has anyone compared the o-ring from the oil feed housing? That's the o-ring I'm more worried about. For the return I just pulled an o-ring from my metric viton o-ring stash... the feed side looks to be a squared edge type of o-ring. Since I didn't have a new one, I just sealed up the stock one using silicone gasket maker and used the paper gasket that came with the turbo rebuild kit.

Curious, do these o-rings (and others) come in the Reinz engine gasket set?
