What sparkers are people running?

I have found the following plugs recommended:

Bosch
W3DP / W3DP0

Denso
W24EPU / IW24

NGK
B8EVX

Champion
N2C / N6YC

Any thoughts?

Mine are probably wrong (dunno what's fitted) and I suspect they are causing my pinking problems.

Apparently UK spec cars have W3DP plugs listed which seems very odd, much cooler plugs than expected.... I haven't checked under the bonnet yet...

Another good question: Is anyone using platinum plugs long term and having any luck? (A few of us have tried them on various cars, and had no luck.)

Currently using WR6DS silver plugs - only because I caught a couple sets on sale some years back..
Also had good luck with copper.

Get yer plug charts here - http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=26893

On other turbo cars I've run, I've found that colder range plugs work better since the turbochargers tend to raise the combustion temps enough that the colder range helps prevent detonation (though at first start, the engine might be a little rougher and you need to let it warm up before getting on it)

For example, the stock plug call-out is RN12YC and I use RN11YC or even RN9YC. You do have to pay attention to the condition of the plugs to make sure you don't go too cold or too hot.

Platinum plugs have tended to shatter the plating off the electrode due to the higher combustion temps and/or slight pinging on the turbo motors I've run. At least the older ones did, not sure if there has been a change in the way the plugs are made to improve this or if the 924 would work better due to differences in combustion chamber design, etc.

Typically, buying good name brand plugs (NGK/Bosch/Champion) and trimming back the center electrode to expose more of the flame kernel and gapping the plugs as wide as possible (again, start small and work your way up until you get ignition problems at WOT) along with good quality wires tends to help a lot. Note: The quality and diameter of the wire and connectors is more important than the outside diameter of the wire itself. Make sure you know the diameter of the actual wire, not just the insulation around it

Indexing the plugs is another area that can help, but requires some fiddling to get right. Basically, you use washers or shims to set the electrode of the plugs to all point in the same direction in the combustion chambers, preferably with the open portion of the plug oriented to maximize the spark's contact with the air/fuel mixture.

See how I get on.

Cheers

+1 to Cedric, or for tamer driving, try NGK B8EV series.

I have an orange 924/924 Turbo Service Information booklet.
For the RoW cars the original Bosch plug is W3DP.
The booklet lists WR4CS as an alternative.

I have used the WR4CS as it is cheaper and at least over here readily available. The W3DP is a factory order item...

S2 comp ratio (8.5:1 Euro-RoW vs. 8.0:1 USA-Can-Japn) could account for your cooler plug spec. -Or are UK cars specifically spec'd cooler than other Euro-RoW cars?..

W3DP are specific UK spec apparently...

I'll see how the Chap and NGK jobbies fair.

I plan on changing leads, dizzy cap adn rotor too.

If that doesn't help I'll turn the fuel up a touch but Id rather not!
