Just started my conversion. Left rear wheel is installed
Left hub nut came loose after some blocking with a bar...but the right one didn't...had to cut it...
Can't use the 4 bolts for the brake carrier (or whatever it's called), they're shorter than on a disc unit.
Have some troubles with the ebrake cable... unbolted a bar which had 4 long bolts.... is that the torsion bar carrier? Can in some way my alignment change or something like that? it's not on the ground so nothing can really happen...but still. _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. The aluminum bar of mystery is to help keep the drivetrain from moving (relative to the passenger compartment) in a collision. _________________ Toofah King Bad

Unfortunately the bits I was to get were rotten as a pear, on the hunt again...
What purpose to the backing disks have? The ones I have are in poor condition, are they really needed? _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

gsfcarparts.com list them for about £3 IIRC
Also partsforporsche.com (.co.uk?) have them too in the UK.
Beetle ones should be OK though. _________________ 1994 Lotus Esprit S4 - Work in progress...

I've been to a few suppliers, but they all couldn't help me or didn't want to put in any effort (except for one VW/audi dude).
Got a webshop from a friend... 16eur for 2 nuts (9eu for a pair)+a pair of splitters (dunno what they're called.. 2 eur) and shipping (4 eur).. so it's good enough.
Just found out that the DIY store doesn't have 36mm tools _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

nice...delivery just under 20hrs so that'll be seemless work.
Dunno though how to get those darn things at 300-400nM.....if my calculations are right I need a wrench of 50cm leverage and then put 80kgs on it... I'm 60kgs so I need more than 50cm boom _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

Dan, I couldn't find it in the thread, but can you explain how to adjust the rear drum stuff for the emergency/parking brake?
There's a toothed wheel to adjust the brake shoes... I adjusted it my checking when both wheels had similar 'brake' performance with the ebrake engaged...but I'm not satisfied with the performance of the parking brake. _________________ "Rule: Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun." (C. Bell)

If you're sourcing the alu trailing arms try to get the M14 bolts that hold the rear shocks in place at the same time. Depending on your location they can be a right arse to source separately...
Still searching...

Gavin, I may have a couple of extras lying around that might be functional. But you can also use standard off-the-shelf hardware, M14x90x1.5. I had no problem finding those, and I believe the threaded boss on the alu arm is deep enough to accommodate the add'l 5mm (depending on the configuration of the end of your shock)...of course a few extra washers can come in handy too. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I've been to a few places already and each have said "good luck!" when I asked for M14 in any size...
I find it hard to believe I won't find them somewhere here, but thanks for the offer - I'll let you know!!

Marty, sorry, I missed this question earlier.
The procedure on Clark's Garage is good, try using it:

Just reread this. . ."late" 944 spindles will not have the correct geometry for a toofah with stock fenders. _________________ Toofah King Bad
