I'm excited, nervous, hungry, you name it.
Got the 944 turbo style fenders, front end (with some modifications that John Brewer from AIR is going to do for me!), the 944 turbo nose, and the front spoiler (street version).
Can't tell you enough how excited I am. Of course the back end will be a bit different, but this decision did not come lightly. It took me many hours of thinking and then finally committing to this decision.
The plans for the rear: IFC's rear wide body with the rear bumper. Holy crap this car is going to look drastically different by the time its all finished.
Here is my only question: side skirts or no. Right now the side looks black where the side skirts are. I would at the least match to the same color.
I am going to 95% of the labor involved in swapping out the front end (minus the nose as I do not know how to remove it properly). The rear end will be up to the body shop that I go with...
front: (although it will also have the 944 turbo style nose as well)
rear: (pending)

Besides all the motor work youve done I whole heartedly agree to have a shop install the rear kit for you. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

If you want to know how to remove the front fender scrap away the waterproofing on the firewall inside the fender. You will find three small bolts. 10mm I think.
remov eall the top and front bolts and it should come off. Get a small butter knife and put it between the fender and the body inside the engine area. It should come off. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

Thanks Vince! My fun thing will be seperating the fenders from the nose panel. Its bonded together and it's going to make me feel very uncomfortable cutting that apart. Sure, it's all getting replaced, but... this car has been a "24" forever, and this just makes it look more like a 44 turbo... not as if I have anything against that.. but I do love the '24 lines
Overall, the end result will be dead sexy. _________________ Classic British Sports Car Restoration v6 + v8 Engine Conversion Swaps

Thinking that you car is old late 70s maybe the goo they
use between the body and fender should be pretty brittle,
the stuff on the 83 944 was really thick and strong i had to
be very careful not to distort the fender though thinkig back
to when i removed the 79s fenders they came off pretty easy
goo was all used up. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

you're on your way to alot of work.
you'll need rear aluminium arms...front ones..front spidles...+ spacers just to fill out those arches.
why not just drop it low and use ROW bumpers ? that would look HOT. _________________ https://www.the924.com |

When I took the AIR front fenders off the 77 car, there was a small bolt holding them in place on each side. I lifted the lights, removed the lower rubber gasket/seal thing, and was able to access the bolt/nut. I assumed the factory fender was attached in the same manner? Maybe not. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

I know I will need spacers, but I think I am going to buy 2002 Porsche 911 Turbo rims.
Current:
New:
Current front: 7x17 (55 mm offset) Current rear: 9x17 (55 mm offset)
New front: 8x18 (50 mm offset) New rear: 11x18 (45 mm offset)
Since the front is getting 2 more inches with the turbo fenders, my calculations say 1.5" inch spacers.
The rear fender is getting 4 more inches per side! So with these fenders it looks like even with the 11" wide rims and the offset, I'm going to need a 2.5" spacer/adapter most likely.
Again, if these calculations are incorrect, or if you can verify them, please let me know - I am picking up these dang expensive rims next week _________________ Classic British Sports Car Restoration v6 + v8 Engine Conversion Swaps

i love the plan i just want to give you two things to think about.
replace the hoop spoiler with the larger fiberglass version of the 924gts rear wing. i think it would fill out the look of that massive rear end better and be more functional.
if you want 18s i would also look at the 996 Carrera III wheels
and the sport classic II
either way you go its going to be a great project with spectacular results. _________________ 17in caymans, koni yellow coilovers, hypercoil springs, kla solid upper mounts, 968 sway bars, kla drop links, kla strut brace, fidanza flywheel, dansk catback, wilwood front calipers, ss brake lines, e-codes, 944 duckbill, manual rack, momo steering wheel |

you have a ford rear end? what do you mean?
well if you're going to put porsche alu arms on the front...then you need front struts and spindles to match the arms...and if you change the spindles...you also need the calipers+pads+rotors.
i insist you dont use 2.5" spacers...thats too much.
i'm using 1" spacers and i'm constantly thinking of ways to get rid of them.
they are heavy or if you make them out of aluminium..they will fail. _________________ https://www.the924.com |
