So, here I am, up under the back end of Red, grinding and hacking away. Gloves, hat, mask, sleeves. . .all in hundred degree weather.
"Haven't made a Blood Sacrifice in a while," I thought foolishly to myself, as I watched the flesh-ripping cutting wheel tear away at Red's fuel pump mount.
And then it happened. . .a spark shot shot off the wheel, caromed off the spare tire well, and shot perfectly into my ear and onto my bloody ear drum! Plonk. . .hissss. . .freakin OWWWWWWWWWW!
My hearing seems OK, but it freaked my ass out! Red hot flying sparks are bad! BAD! _________________ Toofah King Bad

Makes me think of when someone flings water at me, or too much water pressure sprays from the sink faucet, more than always a drop lands in each of my eyes, and nowhere else. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924- Snailshell

Just for you Rasta... Theses should block debris for the ears, and maybe the wife who's talking to much (just say your ears are cold and put them on) and hey, it's makes you look young again
I feel for ya, so I thought the pic would help... _________________ White 1987 Porsche 924S manual

Should be wearing earplugs when operating a grinder. I've never had hot sparks go in my ear, but Its always fun when your trying to keep your hands steady welding and you get one down your shoe, I guess I should wear socks and pants instead of shorts in the shop. I always enjoy catching blue chips coming off my lathe in the palm of my hand too, that always reminds me to put on the gloves.

Nevermind your ear, you got another one ... more importantly, to mount a 944 plastic tank in a 924 one must remove the old pump mounting bracket.
Yippee, no more damm rubber mount thingies! |

Well, it seems orifices tend to collect things like flying metal, rust particles, oil splashes, you know... I'll never forget the taste of battery corrosion.
My mouth tends to collect feet. _________________ '84 944 - kid blew motor

Dang man, next time you think something like that, you should probably put the tool down
Someone needs to watch more Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner cartoons!
Glad you're okay though! _________________ Stefan

Wow.
I was using a Dremel to grind the casting lines off a control arm (which was dumb in the first place) and a needle of metal got flung at 30,000 RPM right at my eye.
I've had all kinds of stuff get in my eye, mostly road grit and chemicals kind of stuff from being under a car, and this stung for a bit and I kind of shook it off and kept working.
In the middle of the night I woke up with terrible pain in my eye. I got myself to an Emergency Room and waited, literally writhing in agony, for over an hour. There's some sort of numbing drops for the eye which a nurse gave me which was probably the best feeling in the world.
They removed a sliver of metal from my eye and suggested I go for a follow up with an opthalmologist.
The eye dr checked me out, and saw a few more teeny slivers of stuff in my eye, as well as some rough edges to the hole in my eyeball. He used...wait for it...a teeny little Dremel like tool to get the rest of the stuff out and smooth the torn eyeball. So everything came full circle.
I have a rust stain in my eyeball if you look closely and otherwise all is well. |

And here's the bonus. . .
I was initially in this getup, but took the t-shirt off my head because I thought I was going to pass out from heat. . .
