Heheh, right now it's just a big collection of parts...
Someday, hopefully, it will actually be a car again, then we can talk about levels of 924-ness _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

More goodies arrived yesterday afternoon
Sway bar package, consisting of (from left to right), brand new OEM center drop links with poly bushings; brand new OEM end drop links with OEM rubber bushings for the bar, and OEM rubber paired with delrin bushings for the A-arm mount point; above that are the KLA adjustable rear sway bar mounts; and on the far right, the Racer's Edge rear sway bar saddles with delrin bushings.
Next, we have a KLA strut brace. I actually did not order this piece, I order the KLA sway bar braces (the ones that triangulate to help strengthen the OEM center drop links), but Jason at Paragon must have misunderstood what I was asking for, and sent this instead. It's so purdy, I'm just going to keep it now. This unit will NOT work on a stock 931 because the bar interferes with the throttle linkage, but on my custom setup, it will clear just fine.
Here we have Pagid T0377 sport pads (the Brembos take these front and rear), along with braided stainless flex lines, and Super Blue fluid.
And finally, Zimmerman rotors for the 86 951 setup, hand slotted by Paragon.
{EDIT}
Oh yeah, I also got started last night on prepping all of the components for paint. Did the first round of Marine Clean, hope to get the Metal Ready application on tonight before the Wings' triumph in the Finals , and then hopefully will be putting the Hard Nose paint on by Thursday. Once that's all done and cured, I can begin assembly and installation! _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made

Last night was productive...I installed the ball joint kits, the front A-arm bushings, and the new front wheel bearings. I then reassembled both front A-arm assemblies (spindles, hubs, backing plates, discs, A-arm, camber plates, and struts). Halfway to being a roller again!!!
For the balance of the week, I'm going to be working on rebuilding the rear half shafts and starting assembly on the torsion carrier. I have to wait to install it, however, until I figure out what to do with the shift rod, which needs to be installed along with the torque tube before the torsion carrier can be lifted into place. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I've purchased all of my suspension parts from Paragon. Since I've purchased pretty much an entire setup from them (i.e. LOTS of $$$$), they've been very good about price matching...
IIRC, the lines retail for $65 for the 4-piece set. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

I've had these 30mm torsion bars for a while...guess I better photograph them before they're installed in the torsion carrier!

Suspension is looking very nice!
Are you sure you didn't want to go the "delete torsion bars and install coil-overs" route? _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Now that is a loaded question!
I don't want to spawn off another huge debate, so I'll just summarize in two points:- Because I already have the torsion bars (i.e. I don't have to spend more money to get the coil overs)
- Because my chassis is a 1980 and I'm not convinced the upper shock mounts are up to the task of supporting the whole weight of the car.
I have considered long and hard going that route. However, in all of my research, I have not been able to come up with satisfactory documented evidence that it is safe to run t-bar-less coil overs on the early chassis. If I were to go just coil overs, the only way I would do it is by addressing the weakness in the upper shock mount and frame rail. Which adds more cost and more delays into the project. Quite simply, I have the t-bars, I know they'll work. If I ever desire to upgrade the spring rates all the way around, my rear shocks will allow me to add coil overs rather than swapping in larger t-bars. So it's sort of the best of both worlds. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
