Okay, i'm fed up. I have tried, and tried again to get the stupid thing to work. What am i doing wrong??? I have a good ground, and, a good source of power. The thing won't light up when the ignition is on, it won't light up when the seatbelt is unclicked, and, it won't light up when i set the e-brake. Any ideas why it isn't working??? _________________ =====>Alex<=====

The one in the combo gauge or the one in the center console or both?
Do you have the wiring diagram? _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

And yeah, I have the wiring diagram, I have been looking it over most of the day lol. _________________ =====>Alex<=====

I believe that the unit in the center console is often faulty and the unit itself often needs replacing??? I hope I have understood corectly this is the two large rectangle lights in the center console?? I have looked inside it and it looks like anyone with intemediate electronics skills should be able to make a good go at repairing one. Just an idea. _________________ 1977 924 2.0 Auto |

I would agree with wombat and say the unit itself is faulty, but, I can get it to work when I directly connect it to power. So, at the moment, im starting to think its the wires that connect to it. I just don't know which ones are post to be grounded, and which ones need power at ignition off, and ignition on. _________________ =====>Alex<=====

I'd swap in another one since the wiring (unless you have altered it) seldom goes "bad". _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

I had a post about how the wiring to this light should be a while ago, I was also having problems getting it to work, I think that I replaced the unit itself and then redid the wiring harness for the unit but it does sound like your unit is working. I will see if I can find that post. _________________ 1977 924 2.0 Auto |

Thanks for the link Wombat, i'll take a look at it in a few minutes. Paul, thanks for the help, if i had imediate acess to one, I would do that, but, I do not. So, im going to elliminate the chances of the wiring being the problem before I go out and get one. _________________ =====>Alex<=====

| With all due respect to those more retentive than I, but if the one in the dash works and the one on the console doesn't..., then why bother with the one on the console..., especially if it has failed and stays off rather than on. Is the one in the console there so your passenger has enough time to say "OH SH*T! HEY DRIVER THE LIGHT'S ON" just before you plow into a wall or does it do something different than the one in the dash? |

I have no light in my center console for brakes, at least it wasnt shining the last 20 years.
But i am in germany, dont know row.
Is it a warning light for low brake fluid or worn pads? If so it does not come on if all the stuff is good....... _________________ NA 924 - april/1977- 4-speed-audi gearbox.

Just to expand on that thought, I think they're supposed to warn of two things actually.
1) Yes, warn of low brake fluid.
2) Also indicate that the hand brake is engaged, or not fully disengaged. That's from the little switch at the hand brake handle...
I just don't think they do *different* things. They both go on, they both go off regardless of whether they're warning of low fluid or your handbrake is still on.... |
