Nice to see you have the 944S2 gearbox carrier and mount installed. You will be running a 968 box then I presume Steve?

yep, the 968 box is in & ready. real piece of luck too. When they cut away the cross bar which supports the normal box, guess what they found underneath?? Captive nuts in the rear chassis legs ready to accept the other carrier!! Result.
Just spoke to the builder, and they are currently mocking up, by transfereing the engine, torque tube, gearbox, suspension etc from my old car to the new one. This will allow them to commence the fine fit details, such as intercooler, rads, fuel tanks etc. And also told the FG body is being trial fitted, so the next batch of pics should be amazing.
Once this is done, she gets stripped down, acid dipped again and electrostatically primered. Then paint. Then the long road to completion!!

Project manager on large infrastructure jobs as a contractor.Specialist subject is the communication & control systems employed on such projects. Deal with the whole systems life cycle, from spcification, design, design compliance, procurement, deployment, testing, commissioning and handover, then into final revenue service. interesting niche. NOT AN IT BOD!!!
Currently working on a new railway in south africa. pays quite well

Exactly. i already have a Porsche 911 GT3, a Honda FireBlade 09 and a host of other toys. I wanted something truly unique, one off, oneof a kind. A real 80's icon car, but with a modern twist.

Cedric,

The car will be campaigned in the UK Porsche Sprint & Hillclimb championship. My competitors are running 911 RSR's, supercharged 944's etc.
Also, i'm building it because i can and i want to. Might sound strange, but i did'nt want another 911 variant. As i stated above, she will be a one off. She will be a racer though, not a garage queen.
I've always loved the 924 family for their fantastic qualities, such as balance and handling. Soi wanted to build the ultimate expression of that outside a factory GTR. She may even go proper circuit racing in the future.

Steve

will it still be street-legal btw?

If you ever decide to do some laps at the nurburgring, let me know, love to see this thing in action

saw some old material from the orange one and that one was already fast as hell...

Sounds like a very good plan, there arent that many 924s that are so racey, so it will be fun to se where this ends up, with the organge car in the rear view mirror this must be just superb. I hope you wont bastardise the car with a later alu engine

Cheers! but if the old 2ltr ever proves to be out of steam, she may get a 3 ltr S2 with silly mods.

Martinjus,

No, she will never be road legal. Strictly race only. There will be no front lights, horn, indicators etc. So it's doubtful she'll ever see the ring. as she's not road legal, no insurance, so no way.
But if you're ever in the UK, try to schedule it in with a round of our championship. Great fun. But i wont be out for another couple of years!!

Oops!! I hope not to have to. But you never know. However, im seroiusly thinking of employing an engine specialist to design a cylinderhead, maybe 16V if possible using as much current stuff, like Cosworth Valves etc. If a twin cam can be made for these, which flows as well as the cossie heads, 500bhp would be a fair target!!!
Machined from billet, using modern technology could be an alternative to the Alu engine, considering how much it would cost to build a decent 3 ltr engine
