I'm thinking that you will need to convert to a better ignition system that has knock detection and to EFI to precisely control the mixture to each cylinder if you want to run boost above 1 bar.

Detonation will break pistons in about 20 seconds if it can't blow the headgasket first.

There are experts on the board that can provide more details....

I'm still rebuilding my wastegate, haven't had that much time for the 931 wrenching...

Look at these items, there is some sort of remnant on them. Is it glue? Do I have to glue them back together? (that is of course the old diaphragm on the left, going to trash can)

Not sure what the junk could be, maybe grease of some sort... When I assembled mine, I coated the outside of the diaphragm with silicone based grease.

Ok, thanks. In your wastegate, were there grooves inside the spring housing? (caused by the spring, eating itself into aluminium)

I wonder if I should fill those grooves with some kind of metal compound and sand it down nicely. What have you guys done to these grooves or have you done anything?

Ja, the grooves normally occur. I didn't do anything about mine, though I recall someone here filled them in. That guy or someone else I believe made a delrin? sleeve whose purpose was to keep the spring centered. A good search might find that stuff (if it wasn't mentioned in this topics' previous posts which I haven't re-read).
I also coated the vented side of the diaphragm with silicone in hopes of prolonging its' life - it seems to have worked because it's ages since I've had to [deal] with it. Silicone nfg for o2 sensors and cat converters, so only apply to the vent side (the other side, the wg control line side, is exposed to intake air, so don't apply silicone there).

Should there be a gasket between the aluminium parts of wastegate? When I took it apart I'm sure there wasn't any but now as I'm about to assemble it back together it seems strange that there isn't any?

Pretty sure the lip of the diaphragm serves as a gasket - if we're thinking of the same surfaces.

Oh I see! I'll take another look if it would make more sense now.

OK, so here's a question, haven't been able to find the answer in FSM...

The nut on the top of the wastegate valve, shows up in Smoothie's diagram, just above the the bright green diaphragm...

How does one loosen and remove that nut? I have a spare wastegate I've pretty much gotten completely disassembled except for that nut, which prevents me from taking it completely apart. I can't keep the valve from spinning, and I'm concerned about damaging it by trying to grab onto it with anything.

Smoothie: Thanks!

ideola: I try to explain it in english: I took a piece of rubber from a bicycle inner wheel (what is that in english?) Then I placed that piece around the valve and then pressed it very hard with long nose pliers. There was enough of friction to prevent the valve from spinning, yet it didn't leave any marks on the valve surface. I've had couple of beers now, I hope that made some sense.

Eric, the one I have is pretty snug, already tried that...although I may not have the same kung fu grip as you

9xx, I understand your description perfectly, I'll give that a try, thanks!
