I'm thinking of updating my windshield to the 944 late style (flush window)... What do I need to do to perform this?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PORSCHE-PARTS-Late-944-Windshield-Rubber-Trim_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem110332205273QQitemZ110332205273QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

Is it just get that guy and a 944 window, or.....?

I did search ! I promise - just couldn't find much - if people know of good posts, post a link up here too

i wonder how the interior will look with the new windshield....i mean...i think there will be a gap between the A pillars and the windscreen aswell as a gap between the dashboard and the windscreen.

Don't know about the 944 specifically, but the the 924S windshield appears to be the same piece of glass as the earlier 924, so no difference from the inside. The upper trim piece is different, but the two side pieces are the same, only they have the weather seal inserts. So technically, I think all you need are the top trim piece and the two weather seal strips.

This is what I thought too - I just want to know if anyone else has performed this. We have talked about it in the past... and I think it needs to be addressed and put in our wiki

Are you wanting to fit the late 944 screen, post 1986? If so yes it will fit, you need to remove the trim clip retainers from your existing shell (these look like small carpet tacks that the old style screen trim retaining clips fasten to), once your old screen is out they can be ground or chiselled off easily. You will also need to use the wiper arms from the late 944 as well to give the correct clearance from the screen, these will fit your old wiper mechanism without modification.

It really is worth the effort as it makes the car look a lot cleaner and newer. If you get hold of a 944 aerial booster you can also hook your radio up to the screen mounted aerial that most late 944 screens have built in.

exactly what I want to do! Do I need a window specific to the 944, or is the 924 window the same thing?

I'm assuming you would also need to acquire post-86 944 trim pieces? or are those set up differenlty, is it just a rubber seal as on most modern cars, and does the seal come with the windshield or need to be sourced separately????

Late 944 screens have a rubber moulding bonded to the rear of the screen which sits the screen out from the body. You only need to buy the exterior rubber seal to finish it off. Don't forget the wiper arms though as the early ones will catch the new screen!!

Great link to know exactly what you need:

http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-parts/944-85-88/805-00.php

The only thing I am not exactly sure on is what items I will need. I suspect would be #6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 in that list.

#6 - Spacer - 944 559 031 02
#7 - Fastening Part - 944 559 337 00
#8 - Cover Strip - 944 559 535 03 or 944 559 535 04
#9 - Frame - 944 559 543 02
#10 - Stopper - Left: 944 559 341 00 and Right: 944 559 342 00

You mean this one? http://www.924board.org/viewtopic.php?t=9644

Does water get trapped underneath at all? Looks like an awesome solution! The window is not flush though, is it? Because this will lower wind resistance and road noise (apparently).

The window is just below flush...otherwise the rubber would sit too high. No problems with water at all. The old 924 trim was made to grab wind....poor design. This stuff can be bought at any automotive glass shop for a few bucks a foot.
