  1. Cam oiler tube elbow.
  2. ARP head studs. The ARP part number is 251-4701, and these are readily available from many of the online race shops (such as Summit Racing).
  3. All the little vacuum elbows. There's 7 or 8 of them, and you'll probably break them (perhaps even without knowing) while mucking around with the head, might as well replace them with the head off.
  4. Now would also be a good time to check the gaskets on the recirc valve on the turbo.
  5. Might also be a good time to replace all of the copper crush washers throughout the turbo assembly.
  6. All of the gaskets for the charge tube setup (varies depending on whether you have S1 or S2 931)
  7. Now would also be a really good time to check the crankcase breather, at minimum clean it while the intake mani is out of the way, or possibly replace it (call EBS Racing).
  8. Inspect and replace (if necessary) the two heater hoses and the heater control valve
  9. Replace the tiny copper crush washer on the oil pressure sender.
  10. New timing belt and tension roller
  11. Inspect the exhaust manifold for cracks if you have S1 931, and replace with a S2 mani if you can get it. While you're at it, replace the studs and get new copper exhaust nuts.

There's probably more to consider, but those are the things that spring to mind at the moment.

Thanks was wondering about which head studs to get. I had orderd some of the odd shaped coolant hoses and have vacuume hose ready. Figured I would replace the exhaust gaskets as I have a leak some place. Dont know much about the turbo so will have to look into it. Mainly looking to fix exhaust leak and make sure head gasket works a while longer not ready to do whole rebuild at this time but may anyway depending how things look with head off. Heater control valve is another excellent recomendation! the Water temp stopped working and think the problem is around that area. It was even hissing dont know if that was the head gasket or just the hose that goes to some sensors attached to vacuume lines or both.

A couple of things:
  1. When replacing the cam oiler tube elbow, be VERY very careful with the oiler tube itself. It is very easy for the nuts to twist the tabs on the oiler tube due while breaking the tension, so be VERY careful when removing the cam bearing caps that you don't twist the brackets. The oiler tube itself is usually not a problem, but the elbow is known to be problematic, and IMO should be religiously replaced whenever performing head gasket, and religiously checked whenever doing timing belt.
  2. It would also be a really good time to check and make sure you don't have any broken valve springs. Even if you're not planning to do a full head rebuild, you've got it off, might as well make sure everything is in order before putting it back together.

Thanks will do. I would do a whole head rebuild but figure if I did the rings would end up giving out shortly there after.
