That's excellent - what kind of boost are you going to run?

Absoultely top quality work my friend, anyone who cant at least begin to understand why we old school types love blowers need only look at this...love it.

What boost do you expect to run?
I ask because with my M62 I am getting 140 degrees C max running at 13,000 rpm max and 10-12psi. Only on long straights but its high temps to deal with. If yours might be as high you will need a good intercooler.....mine is and takes it down to 50 or less.

I like the fact that your belt run is so short...mine's a bit long and has to have a decent tensioner. I do plan to try a larger blower pulley to slow the blower rpm and generate a little less heat. Right now we suspect the ECU is pulling out a bit too much advance on temp correction.

That said I can honestly say a blown 924 is a joy to drive fast and loose. At Cadwell Park yesterday she put in a belting lap, sadly second by just 0.15 seconds due to me spinning up the tyres out of the last bend but only 1.4 seconds behind the fastest car driven by a great driver and with 440 ish BHP.

These cars rock, and rock better with a blower!!...(very biased opinion)

Cheers
Simon

I like this kind of porn!

And the best blown breed would be like on RC's pics + turbo capable of 500hp+ This way you can get savage power with ultimate driveability. Lancia Delta S4 comes to mind.....

Appreciate the encouraging comments guys.
Will update with more pix as this project slowly progresses.

Tuurbo, initially will be very happy if it makes the same as a US spec 931, around 1/2 bar or 7 - 8 psi. Most calculations work out rather optimistically so the best guideline in my case is that Toyota ran these at 1/2 bar into a 2L 6cyl with a 1.2:1 overdrive. ATM mine is 1.25:1. Although my head is ported and matched, have headers and 2 1/2" exhaust, the Toyota may have a slightly higher VE so I may actually make more boost since the flow is not as good. However that is not a good thing.

Simon, thanks for the compliment, especially satisfying from someone who has BTDT.

This is an SC14, 1420cc/rev or around 86 cid. They are not known for their adiabatic efficiency and do run quite hot. The Eatons are better in this respect. Temp rise is a concern and I have a FMIC to go in later, this is just stage 1 in what will undoubtedly be a long term adventure. These come with a magnetic clutch, like an AC compressor, that can be switched on and off. Will have to experiment switching it with TPS and/or MAP and/or RPM ,and am looking at eventually running a bypass valve fabricated from a wastegate or motorised drive by wire TB. And a big red switch just like Mad Max. not really.

Belt size is only 960mm (37 3/4") and a 60mm tensioner is a juggling act. This will give me nearly 270* belt contact though.

Too bad you were just beat by a 440BHP car, 911 was it? But really thats very good indeed and a excellent indication of what these 924s are capable of. Thanks for your inspiration.

Raceboy, cheers.
Twincharging ......... hmmmmmmmmmm............

You`re getting ahead of me there but might be something to dream about in the future. Be happy to get this on the road ATM. Drivability and torque is what I`m after in this street car. Understand these generate 3psi at idle on stock Toyotas. Without any turbo lag may just be able to whip a Hyundai across the lights.

I didn't see any oil anywhere, you better check to make sure there is some in the pan!

Nice Mate!!

Some suggestions,

swap the oil dipstick to the opposite side for the blower. From memory you need to tap the hole. After everythings in you don't want to have to pull it out to change the oil.

Initially I had good success with RPM based triggering of the clutch. If you set it at around 1250 RPM it turns of at idle (and cools) and doesn't affect idle quality to much. I tried to get it just higher than the cold stsrt warm up so it didn't come on during this time. You end up with a little spike in boost when it first kicks in but it doesn't make to much diffference

I wouldn't bother with MAP or TPS triggering as this just gets really annoying when it cucles on off during gear changes and makes the car lurch at times.

I'll guess you be making around the 5/6psi mark with that combo. Not that it really matters what you make at the manifold I'd be more interested in RWHP figures. You are going to post some dyno results please?
Heat is going to be an issue though especially in oil temps, hope you haave a good cooler as your oil is going black very quick otherwise and your coolant temps will spike on shutdown.

Have fun spinning the wheels in third, upgrade your brakes too if you haven't already too. Mucho Respecto !!
Stu

Hey Stu,
Thanks for the advice and the inspiration. Was yourself, Simsport, Kojab and Endwrench showing it can be blown well that gave me more incentive to do it. As well as the benefit of your experience that so far has kept my mistakes to a minimum.

Think the dipstick must be on the opposite side on the SC12s since this one is on the outside LH, below the master cylinder and access is easy. Sure you know that the SC oil is about $130 from Toyota so am thinking VMX80 or synthetic or perhaps GM SC oil. Any advice there? What did you use?

Sounds good to me with RPM triggering just off fast idle. Will have fun experimenting with getting reasonable fuel economy off boost and max power when I want it. Dreaming eh?

Have got an oil cooler and remote filter set up to install yet. Got 5 bolt 944 brakes to fit as well. Just waiting for the introduction of metric time, with 100 minutes per hour and 100 hours in a day.

Am away from the car ATM and will be for another 6 weeks at least, so with wishful thinking am hoping for a drive as a Christmas present to myself.

Cheers

I noticed your only holding the supercharger up there with the one front bolt, are you sure that will be sturdy enough? I had issues with breaking the aluminum casting on my alternator holding it in a similiar method, do you have a support bracket from underneath?

Good observation Min.

Although this is more rigid than anticipated it is just the front half of my mounting, done to ascertain position, belt and tensioner, piping, etc.

There`s 4 of those mounting lugs on this blower, 2 upper and 2 lower. The rear (top and bottom) are inline but the front bottom one is 18mm further forward than the top. It is set up where I want it, inline with the crank pulley. The upper mount is spaced 1.5mm from the 12mm Al plate, which is spaced 12mm from the front three hole engine lug with another plate and bolted through. The bottom is currently packed out 19.5mm. I know it is difficult to see without a photo. Will take more pix when I get back to it.

Am considering cutting another front spacer and reinforcing plate, picking up on the 3 M10 lug holes, from 16mm plate and then spacing it with 3.5mm of large OD washers. Since I am only cutting this out by hand with a jigsaw I think a 20mm plate (with 1/2mm filed or milled out at the SC mount) will be pushing it.

Then I still have to fab up the rear mounting to bolt to the 2 M8 holes just above the sump line and the 2 higher up that are recessed in by 15mm. Had intended to use a similar plate at the rear mounts but now its set up can see it is too close to the manifold at the top. May barely squeeze some 6mm in there or mount at the front of the SC lug. More fun and games coming up here.

Will take some pics when its done and also have the templates if anyone else desires to waste their time and cash on a NA924 like I am.
