Hi,
Have been lurking on this board for a month or two (needed to gather as much information as possible prior to buying a 924 ).
Well have bought a moose-green one from 1983, in quite a nice condition (of course it has some of the usual; a few cracks in the dash and the passenger seat is not in great shape).
Although the car drove fine when warm on the stock fuel injection system (even hot starts), it was pretty miserable when just started cold. Since i did not want to spend too much time fiddling with the ancient fuel injection stuff have ditched it and put a Vems on it.
I have the tendancy to get too excited when a plan crosses my mind... saw a nice Audi V8 abz for sale so jumped on it... But after i bought it and started measuring it became apparent that it will be a LOT of work to get it to fit (firewall will have to move on the driver side, brake cylinder + booster will have to go, subframe needs to be lowered about 6 cm, steering rack will have to move and the 'big' support beams in the engine bay will have to go and re-made.... and then there is the gearbox and engine mounts stuff). It can all be done, but don't want to spend that much time on it. Am looking for a 5 cyl 20v engine at the moment, that will be much less work and will also give some grunt with a turbo on.
Anyway, here the car as it is right now.

Very cool...nice car, able mechanic, added pics to the first post, and from a land where moose are green. Welcome!
That looks like the original color of my car. If it is, it would be "Lhasa Green Metallic", and you'd find the color code "LA6V" on a plate somewhere (maybe in front of the left side of the windshield). _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

haha, yups a green moose would be a funny sight, actually meant 'moss'.
Could only find an almost gone sticker that said '...os grün M6V...', so think it meant to say 'moos grün'. Maybe anybody can confirm and/or complete the color code?

Thought about turbo charging the stock engine, but... to get some power it makes sense to start with a better base. Besides that the 5 cylinder engines have a pretty nice sound |

Actually, the first position of the code should be "L", so looking for "LM6V", but that's not coming up as a valid color... _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Well some time has passed, am still lurking around without much posting but have made some changes to the 924
The idea of a 5 cylinder is still in my head. Actually bought a 7A (2.3 NA) and AAN (2.2 turbo). Plan is to use the AAN bottom and intake manifold together with the 7A head and cams. Have taken the engines apart to revive them. Unfortunately i have much less time to spend on the 924 then i initially anticipated and this conversion will take a fair bit of time. So have given the stock engine a quick and low budget turbo conversion.
Did a baseline power measurement with the engine NA; 92.8 whp on a Dynapack 4000.
The result (axle power and axle torque, torque numbers might therefore seem confusing but that is what it actually made in 4th gear after tuning);
Engine basically made the power i hoped it would still be able to make after 26 years. Cars with 125 engine hp usually make around these wheel power figures on this particular dyno.
The turbo is a GT28RS I had leftover from another conversion. Taking position;
Support bracket;
up pipe;
After about 2 days;
Intercooler was a leftover one, originally mounted on a Sierra cosworth 4wd. Repositioned the hose connections... and then again since i changed my mind about the intercooler piping
Finished;
Like the sleeper look best, so no visible intercooler.
Have given it a quick street tune, runs on 0.8 bar at the moment. Think it makes about 165 whp, not a rocket but still a world of difference with a stock engine
Will tune it on the dyno some time in the next couple of weeks. Goal is something between 180 and 200 hp at the wheels. Hope the clutch holds.
Going to do some g-tech runs as well to see 0-62 and 1/4 mile times, will post them here

Pieter, wow, very nice and ingenious work there! Love the work on the exhaust configuration. I'm curious, what is your impression of turbo lag with the turbo that far from the ex manifold? Have you driven a 931, and if so, how do you think this setup compares?

Awsome work indeed! You make it sound so simple. So is this another example of a boosted NA with the 9.3:1 compression ratio pistons? _________________ 1976 924

The one thing I can't figure out from these pix is how you have the post turbo exhaust routed. I see that it is internally wastegated, but where's your exhaust pipe and muffler and all that stuff plumbed in???? _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
