I want to convert my 931 (1982) to 924S rear aloy trailing arms

What do I need besides the trailing arms. I saw in pet that the strut is also different (951 333 021 00).

And will my 931 calipers en discs fit without modification ?

You need the longer axles(bearings, CV joints?). Donīt know it you use the handbrake, but that one is different as well.

The alloy suspension setup is MUCH lighter than the stock 5-bolt steel setup on the 931. Don't know the exact weight difference, but I know I can lift a complete alloy suspension assembly and move it around no problem, while the steel setup was barely doable with a piano dolly. Plus if you get the 87- 951 setup, you can get the late offset and the 951 4-pot calipers OR bolt-on any of the aftermarket 951 big brake upgrades.

951 Brembo calipers should bolt up to any rear disc setup.

I was just looking at this. Here is what I came up with:

Trailing arms
Spring plates
Axles
Stub axles
Handbrake cables
Brake hard lines

Trailing arm, torsion mount, and spring plate bushings should all be replaced while apart. T-bars too, if you want to stiffen the rear.

mm, thats a lot to change.

One of the reasons i want to change is for coilovers and get the torsion bars out.

If you're changing/removing the torsion bars anyway, it's not that big of a deal. Just get the entire rear suspension assembly and be done with it. I have two awaiting installation, one for the UWB project, and one for Sparky if he still wants it...

Coilovers require a cage. The body lacks necessary reinforcement to support the weight of the car at the upper shock mount.

Why do you want to change it? Like why do you want the torsion bars out and so on? Is it failing to perform with your current driving?

I read Ideola's reasons and for a guy like him who's making a monster, ok, I can see why if you're investing thousands into a monster project you might as well go all the way for an UBER track car, but...for a normal car it seems like a lot of bs. Even for a track car I'm just kind of surprised that the Porsche setup is insufficient.

tuurbo, the conversion is not that big a deal. I got t-bars used for $125, and am getting the aluminum arm setup for $100 from a friend's parts car.

As for the sufficiency of the factory setup, those rubber bushes aren't likely to be in the condition they were when they left Deutschland. . .

Fair enough - I don't drive my car hard enough to really notice any problems I guess.

Well, and that is also fair enough. Your rear bushes are probably OK for light touring, but I take Shaggy on the track, and also on PCA "Arrive and Drive" tours, so I want his handling at its best. . .I have C4Ses to show up!

No you dont need a cage for coil overs. There are a bunch of 944 and 924 owners over here that run coil overs on steel trailing arms. It do need some modification, at least with this bits.

Good luck with that. I'd be checking for cracks after every track event.
