No didn't know that. Is it worth taking them back out and re-aligned for regular road use?

No, I wouldn't take it all apart for that now.
I didn't know the oil was there for cooling when I replaced mine a long time ago (probably close to 10 years) (one side had oil, the other side didn't - and I assumed the oil in the one side came from a leak in that strut insert). Those non-oil-cooled replacements are still good. The car is used daily-year-round on the street, and no racing.

Any one know what sizes and about the amount of vacuum lines I need to redo all of my lines? I live about 15 miles from an auto parts store and I am terrible of figuring out what size they are until I buy the wrong size and have get the next one down or up. Doesnt have to be a perfect list just something to get me most of the way there so I wont spend more time going back and forth than working on it.

Size matters, but the material is just as important, buy the stock ones if possible.

Yep, buy your elbows from Porsche (check the PET), and your vaccuum lines are a standard size. . .get the german-style cloth coated ones, and the correct crimp clamps.

Alternatively, here's what I did on one of my 1980 931:

Get the seven 90° elbows from Racer Parts Wholesale, as 924RACR discusses here. You'll need to double check on the exact sizes.

Get silicone replacement line from Hose Techniques:
10' or 3-4 meters of 3.5mm OD
6' or 2 meters of 12.7mm OD
3' or 1 meter of 19mm OD

This will give you enough to do everything except for the vac lines on the charcoal cannisters You'll probably need another 3' / 1m or so for that. Ask me how I know.

I also used silicone replacements on my NA and it has done wonders to eliminate vac leaks. I'm now pulling a strong 18 Hg in vacuum on that car at idle. Very pleased with the results and the look.

Did you mean OD or ID on those?

Hey, silly-corn elbows, that sounds like a fine idea.

They are listed on their site as OD. These are closest sizes that should work on our cars. The silicone stretches well enough to accommodate fittings that are slight larger than the ID.

How well do silicone hoses hold up to oil and gas?

From what I understand, pretty well...after all, Silicone wouldn't be the material of choice for charge tube connections if it were susceptible to oil and gas...

From: HERE

Though it can be used anywhere regular rubber is used, silicone rubber is most often found in coolant systems as radiator and heater hose, as inlet/outlet tubing connectors and intercooler hose for turbo/supercharger systems, and as emissions system hose. Standard silicone hose is not recommended for carrying oil or fuel; fluorosilicone rubber-lined hose is formulated to resist these fluids, and is offered by Samco Sport in universal straight lengths. Fluorosilicone-lined hose is ideal for oil systems, fuel line, and transmission or engine oil cooler line.

Umm, ok, I'm confused. i thought we were talking about vacuum lines??? If it's good enough for charge air why wouldn't it be good enough for vacuum lines???

The elbows used on the turbo and cylinder head are usually coated inside with oil.
