I generally like the kit, but the wheel arch opening in the rear flare bothers me. It crowds the tire near the bottom.

These flares have the same dimensions as the original Carerra flares put out by Porsche.

I will have to keep an ear out for when i get it back on the road to see if it rubs or not.....from memory i think i has clearance and shouldnt rub.....hopeully not anyway.

I see what you mean about how it crowds but i dont think its a fitting issue i think they are just the guards perhaps and how they fit......if anyone else has put the kit on their car post some pics of how they fit to your car

Joe

Just back from the painters to check out the rear flares on my car. The painter actually passed the same comment about them rubbing and possibly cracking the whole flare.

Just looking at the pic you posted does your car this inner part in the arch at the back....from what i can see your car doesnt and i may need to cut this out....let me know what you think........pic is also with original wheels not the ones in the other pic

Any advice would be helpful as i would like to get this sorted out before the car is painted

Cheers

I used the baseboard heating panels.

Flatten one end with a hammer as it will fit in the crease under the doors. I welded mine on and then filled in the spaces. It came out great.
I bought schuss to spray on the lower valance and it looks just like a 944 rocker panel. I left out some procedures but you get the idea.

I guess I am cheating then, since I am making my 924 Carrera GTS out of a 944 I am using the 944 wheel wells. When I cut off the 944 1/4 panels I was careful to keep the whole inner wheel wells. Then I cut the 924S 1/4 panels I got to fit over the wheel wells. They fit most of the flare but I need to add a piece to the rear of each.

I need to set up something so I can post some pictures here.

Gt racing. They either have original porsche moulds or they made moulds from an original carerra GT flare.

It appears the inner part of the arch may extend inward ABOVE the wheel, and that could pose problems with the tire hitting it when the car is lowered or hits a bump. I would remove any fiberglass that extends into the wheels upward travel.

Notice flares stay out of the way of the tire.

I might be inclined to cut the arch something like this. Just speculating. Your body man, if he has any experience should be able to determine the correct approach.

Forcefully Push/jump up and down on the rear of your car..to simulate extreme ride conditions, and see if the wheels hit, if so see where and cut.

Mine are GT Racing also. They are the only one I have seen that really look like the real flares... of course minus the factory plastic liners.

Joe

Thanks for your post and pics .......Later this week i will take one of the new rear wheels in to the painter and show him how it fits and then we'll go about cutting to make it fit correctly

Cheers

First, they will not fit perfectly. You have to make them fit right. Yes, they are close.
Second, make sure you cut up the rear fenders high enough if you are going to put on wide rubber.
Third, if the flares do not fit close enough to the body you have to shave some plastic off the back of the flare. Careful or you will crack it if you bend it to conform to the body.
Fourth, I thought about the latter and laid up three courses of fiberglass to strenthen the flare. Why? because the fit was not perfect and I had to bend it close to the body.
fifth, I bolted and glued them on and filled in any spaces with bondo.

I put these on myself therefore have some knowledge of the problems.

Vince is correct. The fit is not very good. I had expected them to line up fairly well but they do not. I have mine fitted and attached with screws but I haven't epoxied them yet. I will probably strengthen the back side around the flange before I attach tem perminately.

I agree, having done this project myself. You don't want damaged flares/bodywork having taken the time and effort to put them on.

Mine didn't have the lip extending inside, but I guess for you its a case of measuring and cutting as required to make sure plenty of clearance for the tyre

You could maybe try cutting the flare back to the point where it meets the original fender.

If you're interested theres a thread here about how I installed my GT kit with some pictures...http://porsche924owner.14.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=2676&start=30&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
