My bumper recently got hit and the drivers side got smashed all the way in while the other side came out really far. i took the bumper off then took off the bumper shocks and i was wondering if anyone knew are these shock absorbers one time use, in that once compressed all the way do you have to get a replacement one or can you just pry it back out?
thank you

They are liquid/gas filled, once they are compressed, I do believe they have to be replaced.
Some guys(me included) have actually drilled the shocks and purposely compressed them. This would be called the "snub nose" mod. Of course this will affect your bumper if you get in a small fender-bender. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

Well it is a good thing and maybe a bad thing. Cut a hole in the other one and compress them both. Weld them and if you put them on you will have what looks like a Euro bumper.
My NA has this setup and I like it a lot. You cannot see it in my avatar. I pushed all four shocks and welded them short. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

How far do you collapse them, all the way? _________________ Toofah King Bad

I collapsed mine all the way.
If you drill them and you can push the bumper all the way in, and if you dont like it, pull it out just a bit, and then just make sure its even and mark it on the bumper shocks, weld or drill all the way through and put a pin/bolt through it. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

You may wish to carefully contemplate the damage that would have been done in this incident had you not had the shocks before making a mod that would remove their benefit. _________________ -Stu

I`ll second that.
Any impact will then be transferred straight to the main chassis rails.
I have actually been thinking about installing bumper shocks or a similar spring loaded device to my Euro front.
