Did all cars have flanges for hood shocks?

Or is it just late 1982's?

I found it hugely convenient. Both shocks actually weigh about as much as the support rod, and allow installation of a 944 coolant reservoir (which kinda interfered with the stock rod thingie for me), which by itself is great as far as space and weight savings. Plus, the hood no longer looks skewed when you lift it up

They can be found for under $30 shipped (brand new!), the hood lifts up higher with them, and you can switch to a 944 coolant tank - IHO the best value "cosmetic" mod... I hope my car is a rule rather than an exception, those things are way cool

A couple of pictures would be nice.

(I would love to see my own droopy hood gone)

My 77 and other early ones didnt.

Looking to do this mod soon and already have 944 coolant tank, so would like to see some pics as well.

Ok, it's about time for me to get off of my lazy arse and snap some... Don't expect them till Friday night, though - I'm not gonna be home

The flanges on the hood don't appear to be all that hard to replicate, I'll take measurements (can one possibly use a 944 hood on a 924, for example?...). What bugs me are the ball joint thingies on the body, that can potentially give you a hard time.

It was just the late 82s. My car had the mounts. It always seemed stupid to me that there would be hood shock mounts and yet they still shipped the car with the pole mount

be careful of the fuel lines, some rubbing may occur between the hood shocks and the fuel lines. they can be pulled out of the way a little bit, but i split a heater hose and wrapped my fuel lines with it to protect them just in case .

My '82 has the lower mounts, but is missing the mounts on the hood.

My car has a bonnet mount but not the wing mount...

I have a 944 coolant tank fitted and it clears the crap bonnet stay easily.

Sorry I didn't post pictures - I've been busy with my move

It looks like the brackets are held by spot welds or something of that sort, both on the body and on the hood. You can drill those out to get brackets off of a 944, and then drill and tap holes in the same location on your car, or just weld or even epoxy them in place - the stress is not that high.

I can't say anything about the fuel lines. I don't have anything that goes behind the fierewall anymore, all my lines go from under the brake booster straight to the engine.

Thats good to know. Do you have the retaining clip in the stock position or is it tucked up at the side somehow?

Maybe in the US but theres no way you would get them in OZ for less than the cost of custom made stainless steel brackets. Wonder if they are listed separate in the PET?
Is it a ball that goes on the body? What size?
Was thinking about using 3/16" pop rivets rather than welding and repainting.

Actually the stress is rather high. Same as the rear hatch and one reason the rear hatch separates. Not that modern adhesives wouldn't be up to the task.
