as it says the mark on the flywheel smoothie says theres a mark on the flywheel its z1 or 1z and a line so can anyone help me i know that when the engine is at TDC piston 1 that is what on the flywheel has to be in view in the flywheel sensor hole because im having problem starting the car i checked everything and from petrol and spark , i found out that i had no feul pressure and found the in tank pump was not working so got a new one then found injectors was brokeso they are new then new plugs cap and leads but after all that still no start but thanks to smoothie he informed me about the crank sensor and the mark on the flywheel but i need to know what as to be at top dead centre so all help will be appreicated _________________ hi everyone nice to see and talk and hear from u

There's 3 marks on the flywheel as you rotate it. 1st is 10 degrees BTDC. 2nd is TDC, 3rd is 10 degrees ATDC.
For Engine timing, ie time belt, use the 2nd, middle, mark.
For Ignition timing, ie distributor position, you need to use the 1st mark, ie 10 degrees before Top Dead Centre. |

I think the Z1 mark is correct for TDC on the turbo. Might make a difference on year or side of the pond but my TDC is Z1.

right what it is that the engine builder put the flywheel back on my turbo not knowing of the crank sensor so everything runs but i dont think its timed right because the car will try to fire but it wont stay running so i think the flywheel is on wrong so i need to know when the car piston one is at TDC and for the car to fire ,
meaning when u turn the car over to start it and the flywheel turns and the sensor has to pick up the mark on the flywheel for the first piston 1 to fire and so on what has to be in view when the car piston 1 is at TDC ready to fire is it the z1 mark or 10dergress before or after that mark _________________ hi everyone nice to see and talk and hear from u

One mo' time -
Z1 is TDC for cyl 1. With that lined-up in the window, now look at the front of the engine...you should find a small notch on the crank pulley lining up with a pointer on the oil pump. These two (Z1 in the window and pulley notch at front) lining-up at the same time tell you that the flywheel is on correctly.
This is showing the crank pulley tdc mark and the oil pump pointer as viewed from above -

bloody hard trying to get hold of a decent copy of the hanues manuel in this country and im still trying but cheers for all the help lads i know ive been a pain but thanks all the same _________________ hi everyone nice to see and talk and hear from u

There isn't a decent copy they are all full of rubbish...

There was a post a couple of weeks ago about Haynes manual on line. That might help till you find a copy that you can get all greasy.

u know what guys u are the best u have helped me out so much although ive been a constant pain but i can now get on with changing the flywheel to get it right and hear her start seems as i bought the car2 years ago as a project and last to do was the engine and new interior but putting the engine in and starting it but found out this problem so this is last to do know and then put the car on the road cheers

hi the mark u are looking for i mean the window is as u are looking at the engine from the front towards the rear of the engine looking from above on the right hand side ull find the engine crank sensor which is at the top of the bell housing just in line under the cold start valve its a square window on the bell housing u will need a light source
if u need any help just contact again plus on this site there should be photo links showing the window as well
