...our 924 is closer to being back on the road.
I'll post when I get the starter he gave me into the car.
Till then,
Thanks, C!

Good to meet you and the family! As soon as my phone is charged I'll post a pic to prove that Porsches can live this far north. Fingers crossed for the starter solving the problem. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Slam's very nice 1983 944 and my 924:
It was nice to be able to look at a 944 in detail, it really is a different beast. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Chrenan, the starter works fine. Happiness all round!
Well, guys, my car's a good ten-footer. It's a little scruffy close up but mechanically it's good.
As the post-script to this tale, so far on my wife's 924 I've done the following over the past week: R&R starter a million times; built a steering rack out of good spare parts and put that in (including coupler); oil change; dual cooling fan install and wiring; passenger's side door latch adjust (fun - the whole mechanism had to come out of the door so I could bend one little tang); and now!
The wretched fuel accumulator is leaking!
But that starter's good... _________________ '84 944 - kid blew motor

Awesome, glad it worked out! You're kidding on the accumulator right? I have a small accumulator I used for a year when mine was leaking, but I eventually bought the bigger size which is correct for 1980. You're welcome to the small one, it came in a bunch of New Old Stock pars I bought off Ebay a few years back. Shame you didn't see that leak before you came to town. _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Gonna rip one out of the parts car for now.
As a funny addition to this, yesterday the 944 blew out its right axle seal!
But I have a spare one of those, too.
I'm starting to sense a pattern.
Dude, I really like your approach to what you've done to your car. After all, as the owner you're the guy who has to drive it, and from the driver's seat you can't see stone chips on the front end but you can feel a problem with the engine, say. Makes sense to me. _________________ '84 944 - kid blew motor

Your cars must be parked too near one another. Obviously they're able to communicate and conspire against you. Try parking them at least 30' apart (50' if it's a quiet area). _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Yeah, that's totally my approach, I like things to be mechanically sound and perform well. The outside appearance of my car saves me money on a car alarm, nobody will steal it! _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Swapped accumulator. Put in a 40CC one from the 931 in place of the 20CC one I took out. The car has two, so I wondered for a moment if I could/should modify the fuel lines to use only the 40CC unit. Anyway, I left those alone. Car runs fine. Now I get my 944 back from Mandy... _________________ '84 944 - kid blew motor
