|

Hi guys!
Have any of you done some upgrade from stock 924 clutch?
I know Spec makes upgrade clutch for na but if possible, I'd rather not buy and expensive clutch and wait for it till summer ends as I'm going to install new 2.5 16v turbo engine on it
Any ideas, experience, speculations, hypothesis'es? _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Raceboy,
The Sachs 911 sport clutch fits perfectly. The friction disc will not, but AP Racing made me a 6 paddle Cerametallic disc.

For 2.5 liter engine there's lots of options, but I need stronger pressure plate for 2.0 NA engine that has original 20mm drive shaft and clutch assembly... _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

Raceboy,
Sorry, i didn't read the NA bit
However, if you speak to AP in the UK, they will make you any disc. But i think the 911 pressure plate will still work, as long as the flywheel bolt pattern/standoff iss the same.

It's the clutch working principle that is different between NA and 931/911/944 etc.
And 911 clutch is 225mm, NA clutch is 215mm.
Disc is not the problem, we have a shop who installs Kevlar liners to disc and it will hold up very well, proven times and times already.
It's the pressure plate that is kinda exotic _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

That will work but the realease bearing doesn't look right. That looks like a standard fork style and you will need the hydraulic type.
Also keep in mind the disc wont work either unless you plan to switch to the 951 tube and tranny at the same time.
If you plan to use the stock tube then I think you can go to a 225mm disc from a Dodge D50 pick-up. Not sure on that though. I think the Vanagon used one too.

This is just a stock clutch set as I understand and is not meant to withstand higher torque. _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp

did the 924's have the rubber clutch or was that just the 944 2.5 engine? cause my S had the rubber disk clutch and therefore it would be an upgrade, however slight, but i might be wrong, i seem to remember the 924 haynes manual or the 944 (i have both because of the 924S) had a rubber clutch disk and the other one wasn't. _________________ 1987 924S - MO30 30/19 - Yellows all around |

the 944s got the rubber disc, the 924 never had that problem,
the only thing I can think of is to get a mustang clutch pressure plate that is rated for a higher hold and disassemble the two of them and put the higher pressure springs into the 924 pressure plate. _________________ 3 928s, |

Could you specify these cars a bit as I'm absolutely NOT familiar with US cars?
Do you have some part no or something so I could search for those items? _________________ '83 924 2.6 16v Turbo, 470hp
