Hi guys,

Finally got my old 76 running yesterday after years of being mothballed, so especially for Min I've taken some fresh pics of the engine. If there was ever an argument needed to go EFI then these pics must be it! Just got to get the cooling system plumbed in then I can move on to rewiring the dash board ( the cars got a late 944 dash in it).

Please excuse everything being untidy and a bit dirty but with the intention being to go Megasquirt with Edis at some point, then at the moment I just wanted to get the car back together and running.

Cheers, Bruce.

I guess the head was machined to fit two injectors in place of one

Hey bruce, I'm planning MS and Edis (with MS controlling the spark, only using the coil packs) for my 924...

keep us updated with your MS progress would be interesting.

Nice to see a different approach, but I'm curious to wether that Turbo placement will work. Looks like the timing belt will get a lot of heat. I think you should consider to make a heatshield between the engine and turbo housing, and maybe make an airduct to cool things down a bit.

Btw. how much boost have you planned run?

Wow, that would do the Mario brothers proud!

Seems like a 928 distributor would have made more sense from a packaging standpoint (although not worth the effort to pay for, I'm sure)

Congrats on getting it running!

Hi Guys,

For those who asked..................

Morghen, the injectors are tapped, screwed into the head and secured with epoxy. The head that is on is from the Audi 100 4 cyl, which is the same casting but without injector holes so drilling it for 2 holes was easier. I have a spare 924 head which has been welded and machined for 2 injectors though just in case this one lets go. BHP? Not sure, plenty though, it will easily out drag a 951!

Chrenan, at the time 2 fuel distributors was deemed the easiest was of delivering twice the fuel to twice the injectors, it runs 2 pumps drawing from independent outlets on the tank, through 2 sets of feed and return lines. However the distributors are linked so that the pressure stays the same, but at just over half throttle a switch on the throttle butterfly opens a solenoid to allow both pressure regulators to operate in parrellel so that the fuel pressure changes to allow more fuel through the injectors.

356speedster, I have a turbo bonnet on the car and a second in scoop above the turbo, I also fit a top timing cover when I'm running the car, but yes it does get a bit warm under there. Boost wise it runs up to 32 psi under full load.

Fiat22turbo, I considered going the 928 fuel distributor route, even obtained a couple of them, but since getting back on the car I think efi is the better option.

Allan, I'll scan some pics of my old car with a late dash swap as that had the 944 heater box grafted in as well - major hassle. This one is a bit easier as it's only a toy for drag racing really so it doesn't use a heater just uses the original 924 blower for cold air.

Cheers, Bruce.

32 psi ???

That must be atmospheric + boost. As in ~14psi + boost pressure. Even 18psi boost is doing very well!

But boy, talk about a nightmare. Holy cow! This is a great reminder of how far we've come with easily adaptable EFI.

Is the engine modified internally? pistons/conrods and that sort of stuff? I'm wondering for quite a time how much power a stock engine can generate without killing itself

I second the motion that a 928 CIS fuel dizzy would have worked fine, and you could have gotten a Y for each injector and just pumped 2x the fuel through 1 injector like the factory did on a couple cars

looks good though

This is the sort of thing that comes from people who don't have the word "can't" in there vocabulary!!

I love it but you're right, a plumbers nightmare to say the least.

What was the catalyst for this conception? Did you get your hands on that big ole turbo first then design everything else around it? Or did you wonder if you could bolt up two fuel distributors and work from there? It seems there was quite a bit of "engineering" on the fly

Todd
