No. It doesnt smoke much really. It has straight pipes on it (just for now) and smokes a little bit, but it isnt white.

Does it seem to "whump" more on deceleration then on accel?
Sounds like a connecting rod bearing to me. Also I think those engine also have issues with the harmonic balancer...check that too..that can really throw you off because they make the same sound. _________________ 1976 924

i think on decel. It's definately more audible while it idles. I just read that knocking on startup can be fixed by using a different oil filter with a check valve. But would this be considered a knock? It also says that the main bearings can cause that noise too.

I don't think it would be an easy fix like an oil filter...sorry. Yes it could be the main bearing as well...by 99% of the time it's the connecting rod bearing. Those can be changed easily and just repolish the crank...but you have to get access to the base pan removal. _________________ 1976 924

Here's something else. http://www.pistonslap.com/ It makes a noise similar to what they are talking it. When the car idles it does seem to make a 'slap-slap-slap-slap' noise.

Even if you listen to that, it sounds more like a valve train noise then anything.... but you still have another sperate issue and that the overheating problem that has nothing to do with piston slap or a bad connecting rod bearing. Le moter c'est toast. _________________ 1976 924

Yeah, that sucks. . .sounds like PO did the conversion with either a bad motor or inadequate cooling. . . _________________ Toofah King Bad

Nope..that was a highly modified 944 piece as well as the fenders. I may be making a mold off of it in the near future and offering it for sale. It would bolt to your stock fenders.

if anyone is interested in some of the conversion parts shoot me an email. I'm starting to part the car out, so if you show interest i will hurry up and pull the engine out and get the parts together.

The car was manual, with a modified bellhousing. I dont quite remember how it all worked exactly, I sold the parts off a good while ago. The had converted it to a hydrualic clutch, and there was an adapter plate. I do know that they had used a Corvette clutch and pressure plate.
I do however, have headers that were purpose built for the car if you want them. I can clean them up real nice and plaint them flat black.
