Will there be enough clearance if I put 7x16"x 52.3mm offset phonedial wheels on my 931? My silver 928 is being upgraded to dish (S type) 65mm offset wheels.

Thanks as always,

Dennis

On my turbo with 7x16 flat dishes, I needed to use 1/4" spacers and 50mm studs on the front to accomodate the 225's for adequate clearance/thread engagement (assuming minimum thread engagement = diameter of stud). As I recall, without the longer studs, I was a few turns short. 205's did not require the spacers or longer studs.

My '80 931 has the flat dish wheels. They look nice but It has huge 1" spacers all around. :-/ The rear ones don't bother me as much, as they bolt on and have their own studs, but the front ones just have super long studs and the 1" spacer slides on before the wheel. I'd worry about driving hard with it that way, but the car is out of commission for a while, while I replace/rebuild turbo, clutch, tranny, exhaust manifold, J pipe, and waste gate.

You probably have the 931 wheels which are only 6inch wide. They came with a 20mm (??) spacer in the back anyway. Likely the one you are using up front. Spacer works fine - not to worry.

Most 924S used the spacer in the rear also.

Guess it's settled. The polished 7x16 phonedials are going on the 931. Now if I can just turn the steering wheel with the 225x50's. Thanks all.

Got them on and drove approximately 7 miles then blew out the passenger side tire (225'S). A blow out at 75 mph isn't as scary as I thought it would be. Relpaced the front tires with a set of 205's but it still rubbed the spring. Turns out the spring was bad so a set of replacement springs (thanks Zuffen) and new struts gives me about 10 mm of clearance with the 205's. Tomorrow the 931 goes back into the daily driver rotation.

Thanks for all the advise.

Dennis

If you use 1/4" spacers on the fronts, 225's will fit with approx. 10mm clearance, that is, if you're still interested. Performance Products sells them.

Tigger,

That is my next set up since I like to rotate my tires. BTW your previous info was right on the mark.

Thanks,

Dennis

So if I understand this, on a 931 (M471) for 225 all the way around, I would need 1/4” spacers on the front?

Could I run 215’s in the front and 225’s on the back? No spacer? Not a good idea?

What about with 1" lowering springs?

With 205's on my front I have about 3/8" clearance. The 225's rubbed the strut springs. I would feel more comfortable with 205's and 1/4" spacers.
