Is it possible to swap a 924/944's engine with a engine of a Corvette, maybee a v8 5.7 liter engine? I was wondering what would happen to the car? Too much power? Anyone plan on doing something like this? |

Yeup. Quite possible. Also quite expensive. The 924S is supposed to be easier for that swap. |

I don't think it would be that expensive, gut that is relative to your budget and if you do it yourself or have somebody else do it.
The cost of the engines can be $1500 to $2500 for a good LT1. A bit cheaper if you get the Z28's LT1.
The adaptier kit will run from $2000 to $3000, I am guessing.
Then there is just the work of putting it in and some odds and ends.
So this could be a $5000 conversion, or an $8000 conversion depending on how you go about it.
Of course, you don't want to put in that kind of power and not upgrade the suspension and brakes.

Doing it right on a 944 is about $8000.
Renegade Hybrids, the foremost US conversion company, has STOPPED doing 924 V8 conversions because they're too expensive and difficult. And not WORTH IT. |

Rick, what the hell are you talking about? Everyone knows that the conversion is closer to $11.72.
Warning: Above price does not include engine, engine mounts, installation kit, exhaust fabrication, wiring harness, clutch, brake upgrade, nor does it include the eventual transmission replacement, chassis strengthening, or compensation for psychiatric services when you tell other people how much you really spent putting an iron V8 into a perfectly-balanced sports car.

Realistically, it can be done for far less, if you have the equipment, skill and expertise to fabricate the necessary components. Figure a cost for a used LT1 of about $1500, or a ZZ4 crate for $3500.
Now, assuming you gan get a low mileage 951 tranny, torque tube, and clutch for $1500, and fabricate EVERYTHING you need for this swap, budget $3500 plus car.
It's better to find a 951 with a blown engine, and start from there, you get drivetrain that can handle the power, and suspension, tires and brakes to match it. |

if you are doing a engine swap go with a porsche engine keep the balance but if you dont want to, and you want the power go with a light engine like an aluminum engine there are a couple of rovers or a 928 v8 all aluminum engine and then take the 928 transaxle clutch, but i dont think the trosion tube will fit |

Ah, thats where I come in... I make it fit! I just don't see any reason to use a heavier engine, that doesn't get as good fuel economy, when the 5 cylinder is avaible. The 20V 3B and later motors made as much power as most smallblocks, and with very light tuning(raising boost, bigger injectors, P&P, chip), make far more power than most small blocks, with a much wider powerband. |
