Evening Simon,
Congrats on the win (again!!! ) Especially after the start you had. Well as you can see, she is nearly done. Looks like Goodwood will be her maiden outing. Going to do a test day or two to get her set up, and make sure it's all working ok. I'll keep you posted as to whether the cooling mods have worked or not.

Steve

Awsome car.Have you ever had it weighed ? I see alot of lightweight stuff there and have always wondered what a 931 could be stripped down to.Did I mention that's an awsome car ?

Looks unreal! Can't wait to see some vids of this thing going. Few things I would like explained:

* The line going from the thing that looks like a fuel rail to the brake booster??
* No hose clip on the silicon piece that joins the metal tube to the thermostat housing... do you not need one?
* Are they motorbike throttle bodies? They look bolt on!!
* Whats the adjustment behind the gear actuator in the cabin? Brake bias? Fire system? Battery Cut off?
* Do you vent excess pressure in the head PCV style?
* Looks like a mighty huge bracket for the crank sensor, what made you build it like that?

In otherwords, its awesome and Im intriuged! Do you do all the work yourself?

Cheers guys,

Mac, in answer-
It's a vacuum manifold. All cyl are linked
Eagle eyes!! You may notice the water pump is also missing. Just a few jobs to do
The TB's are Jenvey 45's with 650c/min injectors, but mounted to a modified 924 weber N/A inlet.Plenum chamber is a custom two piece unit.
Yep, brake bias. Was put in by the PO. I will get round to sorting it
Head ad block are piped to a puke tank, where the battery normally sits
Re the bracket, its yet to be tig'd, so it will be cut down somewhat. But strong is good. I made it adjustable to counter my wonky eyes,so that once fitted, once adjusted i can weld it up, and cut it down. As a race car, this sensor is critical to the ECU and i would rather have a bulky but solid item, over something that wobbles and affects the engine. I had visions of the sensor wobbling, getting hit by the wheel and ending my day. Not pretty but damn effective!!
And Mac, yep, i did 95% of this myself. I got specialist items like the intake/fuel system fabricated by a top man, and the head professionally built, and the suspension/geo set up, but apart from that, it's pretty much all my graft. Like i said before, i've made a ton of mistakes, but it's the first car i've ever built, so it was going to happen. It's only time and money
Keno, weight has been verified at just under 950kgs with all fluids and a full tank of fuel. with the planned 250 bhp she should go well
Next i am planning a fully forged bottom end, knife edged crank, the lot, but i am experimenting with 911 clutches at the moment. The turbo will support 340 bhp max, as it is built on a series 2 hotside. But the spool up and efficiency will be superb. I am getting her mapped for torque over BHP, like a WRC car. The wastegate is fully controlled, as is the water injection. With a bigger turbo, 4-450 bhp would be possible, but useless for what i want. That would also mean beefing up the power train. Not something i fancy at the moment. I believe their is more time to be had by having a well balanced/set up car, with good suspension, and handling, rather than turning the wick up for another 50 bhp. And learning to drive it..
I would like to thank all those on here who have given their time and expertise to me via my silly questions. You made life a lot easier.
If anyone ever comes over to the UK, give me a shout. Be good to hook up.
UK guy's, i'll see you at a track day or two soon.
Oh, and if anyone has ANY questions, please feel free to ask. I think i know a little bit about these cars now!!

Steve

Lizard,

Don't worry. Once your lease runs out and we take back control of America, you too will be driving on the left....
Seriously though, it's quite amazing how they butcher a car to make it RHD. Rumour has it that LHD 924's in the 924/944/968 championships are the ones to have over here. They are a fair bit lighter straight off.

Yikes, that is amazing! Keep the pictures coming.

Couple of stupid questions. Did you eliminate the torsion bars when you went to the rear coil overs? Are the trailing arms from a later 944 model? What's up with the transmission? What is the black box between the transmission and the final drive? Is it an LSD? What brand? Is it an Audi 5 speed box? Any fitment issues with all that extra length? Did you cut out the spare tire box in the rear?

As you can tell I don't know much about building race cars, but I'm curious.

Chrenan,

The gearbox is from an early 944, but with a Quaife LSD fitted. I just painted the centre black 'cos i was bored! Yes the torsion tubes are gone. The rear is coilovers with solid mounts and Delrin bushes.
The 944 box will fit, but i cut 6" from the spare wheel well, so the box can be removed without having to drop the rear suspension. The fuel tank is now in the spare wheel well.
She also has fully adjustable sway bars front and rear.
